Dealing with left shoulder sprain
February 9, 2021
Edwards received a six-month medical suspension after sustaining a left shoulder sprain Saturday in her unanimous-decision loss to Karol Rosa at UFC Vegas 18, Alexander K. Lee of reports.
The suspension will prevent Edwards from competing until Aug. 6, unless she receives a negative MRI result on her shoulder and gains full medical clearance from an orthopedic doctor.
Falls for first time in UFC
February 6, 2021
Edwards lost to Karoline Rosa via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Making her second appearance for the UFC in a span of three weeks, Edwards was unable to replicate the success of her unanimous decision win over Wu Yanan last month. Edwards had all sorts of issues staying off of her back, as Rosa connected on 4-of-6 takedown attempts. Edwards has proven to be plenty tough and reasonably flexible over the course of her first two UFC bouts, but she's still just 25 years of age and only has a dozen professional fights under her belt. There are going to be plenty of ups and downs along the way.
Set for February fight
January 26, 2021
Edwards is slated to face Karoline Rosa in a bantamweight fight at the UFC's Feb. 6 event in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of reports.
Edwards is filling in for Nicco Montano, who dropped out of the fight Tuesday. Rosa is fighting for her first time since July of 2020, and she's own both of her bouts at the UFC ranks. Edwards has fought just once at the UFC level, defeating Wu Yanan via unanimous decision.
Strong effort as late-notice sub
January 16, 2021
Edwards defeated Wu Yanan via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC on ABC 1 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
The level of competition she was going up against must be taken into account, but this was quite an effort from Edwards given the fact she accepted this fight on less than 10 days notice and had been competing for organizations that 99.9 percent of hardcore MMA fans have likely never heard of before. While she failed on all three of her takedown attempts, Edwards appeared calm and composed on the feet. There is probably a better than even chance this goes down as the high water mark for Edwards with the UFC, but there's no denying she showed well on Saturday under tough circumstances.
To debut on Fight Island
January 7, 2021
Edwards will make her UFC debut in a bantamweight matchup against Wu Yanan on Jan. 16 on Fight Island, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Edwards last competed in July with a first-round knockout of Pamela Gonzalez under the Mexico-based promotion Ultimate Warrior Challenge. That followed up a split-decision loss to Sarah Alpar, who currently is on the UFC roster. Edwards will give up a couple inches in height to Wu, a fellow bantamweight/flyweight prospect in her mid-20s. She gets this short-notice opportunity following the withdrawal of Bethe Correia (appendix).
