Ground game leads to first UFC win
October 9, 2021
Godinez defeated Silvana Gomez Juarez via submission (armbar) at 4:14 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Godinez dropped her UFC debut to Jessica Penna via split decision this past April, but she had no difficulties with Juarez. "Loopy" showed off her ground game in this one, connecting on five of six takedown attempts, good for 3:27 worth of control time. The finish came when Juarez gave up her back and allowed Godinez to work towards isolating a limb on the mat. Godinez had some helium behind her prior to her company debut, but she is 28 years old and has all of seven professional fights under her belt, so expectations should be tempered. At the very least, she'll walk away with an extra $50,000 here after being awarded a Performance of the Night bonus.
Gets new opponent
October 5, 2021
Godinez will now be fighting Silvana Gomez Juarez at UFC Vegas 39 on Saturday after her initial opponent, Sam Hughes, was forced to withdraw, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Sam Hughes was forced to withdraw from her upcoming bout against Godinez after her coach tested positive for COVID-19. She'll now step into the Octagon against a newcomer in Juarez who will be making her promotional debut. Godinez will be in search of her first UFC win after dropping her debut as a heavy favorite to Jessica Penne in April.
Draws Hughes in October
June 27, 2021
Godinez will take on Sam Hughes in a strawweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Oct. 9, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Godinez lost her short-notice UFC debut to Jessica Penne back in April and had a follow-up bout against Sarah Alpar scrapped in May due to visa issues. She'll now take on a fighter in Hughes who is 0-2 under the UFC banner, most recently dropping a unanimous decision to Loma Lookboonmee on May 1. Godinez will be giving up three inches in both height and reach in this matchup.
Fight called off
May 20, 2021
Godinez will not be able to fight Sarah Alpar at the UFC event on May 22 after she was unable to get a Visa in time to travel to the United States, John Eric Poli of My MMA News reports.
Godinez initially accepted the fight against Alpar on short notice after her initial opponent was forced to withdraw due to COVID-19 protocols. Godinez ended up not being able to get a Visa in time to compete in the United States which forced the UFC to scrap the fight altogether. She was in search of her first win after dropping her promotional debut against Jessica Penne in April and will have to wait for another shot to enter the octagon.
Taking on Alpar
May 16, 2021
Godinez will fight Sarah Alpar at a UFC event on May 22 after Stephanie Egger withdrew from the bout for unknown reasons Sunday, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Godinez is coming off a loss in her UFC debut to Jessica Penne in April, and she'll look to add more experience and potentially a win against Alpar, who is 1-1-0 during her young UFC career. Godinez entered her debut fight as a heavy favorite, but she seemed to lack awareness inside the octagon. She'll have an opportunity to redeem herself in what will be a quick turnaround fight.
