Elliott is under a temporary suspension by the NSAC after he tested positive for marijuana, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Elliott should receive his full suspension on Wednesday, but it is typically around nine months for a positive marijuana test. Elliott is coming of a win over Ryan Benoit via unanimous decision on July 16. That was a fight he took on short notice, which may have played a role in the positive test.

Barely gets by Ryan Benoit

Elliott defeated Ryan Benoit via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
A wrestler by trade, Elliott should thank his lucky stars that he managed to emerge victorious in a fight in which he failed on 12-of-13 takedown attempts. Whether or not he actually deserved the decision is another matter entirely. This was a close one. Elliott struggled to get his grappling game going and Benoit landed the harder shots throughout the course of the fight. What Elliott was lacking in the power department, he made up for with volume. Elliott landed 90 total strikes compared to just 64 from Benoit. Elliott has far more ability than his 5-9 record over two stints with the UFC would lead you to believe, but you are what your record says you are in this sport, and it seems highly unlikely Elliott will suddenly go on some sort of run at age 33.
Gets another shot at Fight Island

Elliot will take on Ryan Benoit in a flyweight matchup July 15 on Fight Island, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Elliot has been a staple of the flyweight division since its beginning, but he now finds himself in the midst of the second three-fight losing streak of his UFC run after a loss to Brandon Royval on May 30. He'll now take on a fighter in Benoit who was scheduled to face Tyson Nam on June 13, but was forced to withdraw due to undisclosed reasons. While it's still unclear what kept Benoit out of that bout, it seems he'll be healthy enough to make the walk to the Octagon just over a month later. Statistically, Elliot holds advantages in striking offense, striking defense and takedown average. Elliot is also two inches taller, but Benoit has a two-inch reach advantage.

Elliott lost to Brandon Royval via submission (arm-triangle) at 3:18 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. It's a loss Elliott could not afford in a fight in which he appeared to be in total control. Elliott dominated the early portion of the bout with his wrestling. He secured multiple easy takedowns in Round 1 but never really had Royval in any sort of trouble. With his gas tank fading a bit in Round 2, Elliott allowed Royval to gain position on the mat and secure the choke that ended the fight. The pace at which Elliott fights is always impressive to watch, but his fight IQ is questionable and his submission defense -- particularly of late -- is abysmal. Elliott is 1-4 in his past five fights dating back to June 2017. He has tapped out in three of those four losses. The 33-year-old is going to have a difficult time recovering from this one, but he'll at least take home an extra $50,000 after this bout was awarded Fight of the Night honors.
Gets newcomer in Vegas

Elliot is scheduled to take on Brandon Royval in a flyweight matchup at the UFC's scheduled event on May 30, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Elliot has dropped three of his last four fights and competes in arguably a dying division, so getting back on track against a newcomer is as must-win as it gets. While he did land 47 significant strikes and three takedowns in his last bout against Askar Askarov, it wasn't enough to earn the judges' favor. He'll now take on a debuting 27-year-old in Royval, who has competed under the banner of Legacy Fighting Alliance since 2017. Six of Royval's 10 pro victories have been earned via submission, and Elliot has been submitted four times in 10 career defeats.
Struggles continue at UFC 246

Elliott lost to Askar Askarov via unanimous decision (28-29, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 246 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a highly disappointing effort from Elliott in a fight he had to have in order to remain somewhat relevant at 125 pounds. He struggled with the hand speed of Askarov throughout the course of the bout. Elliott absorbed far too much punishment on the feet and was unable to generate any sustained offense of his own. Elliott connected on just 3-of-11 takedown attempts and did nothing with the positional advantage he was presented on his three successful tries. Elliott is now 2-4 since returning to the UFC for his second stint with the company back in December 2016.
