Snaps three-fight losing streak
Johnson defeated Azat Maksum via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
No fighter on this card needed a win more than Johnson. The loser of three straight and stepping in for Nate Maness on about a month's notice, Johnson dropped Round 1 in overwhelming fashion before figuring things out. Over the course of the final ten minutes, he out-landed Maksum 66-23 and chipped in a pair of takedowns for good measure. We've seen Charles pinned to the mat for long stretches at a time in the past, but Maksum was unable to do so, opening the door for Johnson's comeback win. His UFC run is still on life support, but the victory should ensure we see Johnson back in the Octagon once again. He'll also walk away with a $50,000 post-fight bonus after this bout was awarded Fight of the Night honors.

Steps in for Maness
Johnson will fight Azat Maksum at UFC Vegas 85 on Feb. 3, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Nate Maness (undisclosed) withdrew from the event, so Johnson will take his place with a month's notice. The 32-year-old suffered his third straight loss in November, and dropping another fight against Maksum, who is a perfect 17-0, could spell trouble for Johnson's future in the UFC.

Suffers third straight defeat
Johnson lost to Rafael Estevam via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Johnson will walk away with a few extra bucks after Estevam missed weight by two pounds Friday morning, but having now suffered his third straight defeat, Charles could very easily be handed his walking papers. Johnson was dominated on the mat for ten minutes before an exhausted Estevam gassed out, allowing the former to finally generate some offense in Round 3. It was too little, too late. Set to turn 33 years of age in January, Johnson fought four times in 2023. He knocked out Jimmy Flick early in the year, before dropping decisions to Estevam, Cody Durden, and Ode Osbourne. It's looking bleak for the "InnerG."

Opponent misses weight
Johnson's opponent for Saturday's bout at UFC Vegas 82, Rafael Estevam, missed the flyweight limit Friday, MMAJunkie.comreports.
ANALYSIS
Estevam weighed in two pounds over the flyweight limit, which is concerning since his debut in May was canceled due to issues with cutting weight. Johnson is looking to break a two-fight losing streak, while Estevam should face a purse penalty if the bout goes on as scheduled.

Will face Estevam
Johnson is slated to take on Rafael Estevam at UFC Vegas 82 on Nov. 18, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson is riding a two-fight lossing streak with losses to Ode Osbourne (split decision) and Cody Durden (unanimous decision). His UFC record has fallen to 2-3 as a result. He will look to get things back on track when he takes on Estevam, who is making his debut with the company.
