DraftKings Fantasy Soccer: Wednesday Gold Cup/MLS Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings Fantasy Soccer series.

MATCHES (EDT)

7:30 p.m: Philadelphia Union v. Columbus Crew (MLS)
9:30 p.m: United States v. Jamaica (Gold Cup)

PLAYER RECOMMENDATIONS

GOALKEEPER

Tim Howard, USA v. JAM ($5,700): Howard has been a beast in net for the Americans since joining the Gold Cup camp. He has made three saves and has yet to concede a goal in two games. He has the ability to actually win games by making big saves that other goalkeepers are not capable of making. Jamaica will likely pack it in like they did against Mexico, which gives Howard a great chance of earning a clean sheet and potentially a win.

DEFENDER

Kemar Lawrence, JAM v. USA ($5,100): Lawrence scored a stunner from a free kick to eliminate Mexico in the semifinals. The match was tightly contested, and in the second half the momentum swung to the side of the Reggae Boyz. Lawrence should be over most of Jamaica's set pieces against the Americans, and he may need to do something with them in order to hit value and spring a surprise in the final.

Giliano Wijnaldum, PHI v. CLB ($4,400): Wijnaldum, the brother of Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum, may not be of the same quality, but he has produced at a rate that has met value over his first six MLS games. His price has risen above $4,000 for the first time this season, but at home against an inept Columbus Crew, Wijnaldum has a good chance of hitting value once again.

Alvas Powell, JAM v. USA ($4,300): Powell was a great bargain play last slate but his price has risen $400 and he now faces a bit of a tougher opponent. He is very strong defensively, which allows him to earn plenty of peripheral stats, and if the Reggae Boyz go down in the match, Powell will be pushed forward in search of a goal.

MIDFIELDER

Clint Dempsey, USA v. JAM ($10,700): Deuce subbed on in the last match and scored from a free kick to tie Landon Donovan for the most goals in U.S. men's national team history. He is likely to start in this game after playing only 24 minutes in the last match as he looks to claim the U.S. record for himself.

Haris Medunjanin, PHI v. CLB ($6,500): Medunjanin is the set piece taker for Philadelphia. He is a defensive midfielder, which limits his attacking potential, but in a two-game slate, he warrants serious fantasy consideration.

Fafa Picault, PHI v. CLB ($5,800): Picault has been on a tear since entering the starting XI. It is hard to find a game in his DraftKings game log when he didn't meet value. His price is slowly rising, but at sub-$6,000, Picault makes for a great play in a two-game slate.

FORWARD

Jozy Altidore, USA v. JAM ($9,400): Altidore opened the scoring for the Americans in the semifinals, and he is the type of goalscorer who finds his form with a goal. He will likely come out firing against Jamaica, and the shots should be accurate after a boost in morale for the volatile striker.

C.J. Sapong, PHI v. CLB ($7,700): Sapong is a home forward, and though he has just two goals in his last 10 games, he comes up against a very inept Crew defense.

Kekuta Manneh, CLB at PHI ($5,800): Manneh has found his form since being traded to the Crew. He has hit double-digit fantasy points in three of the past four games, with two goals and an assist. He is a very strong play at a limited forward position, especially on a two-game slate.
