DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Michael Fulmer, DET at MIN ($6,800): Fulmer struck out 145 batters over his last 140 innings in the minors, so the heralded prospect could make quite a splash in that category in his MLB debut against a Minnesota team prone to whiffing. His $6,800 price is extremely cheap for a pitcher with his upside, and the Twins' offense is about as good a matchup as the rookie could hope for considering it strikes out more than all but five other team while scoring the fifth-fewest runs.

Corey Kluber, CLE at PHI ($12,500): Don't let Kluber's price scare you away from using the Cleveland ace against the league's least potent offense. He has upped his strikeouts in each start this season, and now owns a robust 9.67 K/9 after fanning 10 Tigers in eight innings last Saturday. That number is right in line with his career rate of 9.50, while the veteran's 3.07 FIP in the early going suggests his 4.67 ERA is due for a reduction.

CATCHER

Jonathan Lucroy, MIL vs. MIA ($3,300): Lucroy is an affordable option in a convenient situation, as he will bat in the heart of the Milwaukee order against Adam Conley, who is winless with a 5.12 ERA in four starts. Throw in that the left-handed pitcher represents Lucroy's preferred split at the plate, and suddenly $3,300 starts to look like a terrific deal.

FIRST BASEMAN

John Jaso, PIT vs. CIN ($3,400): Jaso continues to punish righties out of the leadoff spot in Pittsburgh, with a .363 wOBA that is right in line with his career .353 mark against them. The discount first baseman is a strong option for owners looking to spend big on other positions, and Jaso provides a high floor given the fact that he has hit safely in all but one start this season and owns a minuscule strikeout rate of 8.5 percent.

SECOND BASEMAN

Chase Utley, LAD vs. SD ($4,000): Utley is enjoying a renaissance against righties atop the order, bringing back memories of his heyday in Philadelphia with a .395 wOBA. Look for the veteran second baseman's experience to overwhelm rookie right-hander Cesar Vargas, who will be making his first major league appearance outside the pitcher-friendly confines of Petco Park.

THIRD BASEMAN

Alex Rodriguez, NYY at BOS ($4,000): Rodriguez posted a .389 wOBA against lefties last season despite his advanced age, and he finds himself hitting in the heart of the order once again. He draws a struggling lefty in a hitters' park, and could be in for a massive performance if Boston starter Henry Owens is unable to improve on his first start of the season (three earned runs allowed in 3.1 innings). Rodriguez also has BvP history on his side, albeit in a small sample size, with a 1.350 OPS in four at-bats against Owens.

SHORTSTOP

Carlos Correa, HOU at OAK ($4,400): Correa owns a .373 wOBA against left-handed pitching during his brief MLB career, so rookie lefty Sean Manaea will likely run into trouble against the power-hitting shortstop. The 24-year-old pitcher's only experience above the Double-A level consists of three Triple-A starts this season, and going from that level to facing the top overall selection in the 2012 draft will likely be too drastic a difference to overcome. This is exactly the type of situation in which Correa is worth paying up for.

OUTFIELD

Michael Conforto, NYM vs. SF ($3,500): Conforto has mashed righties like there's no tomorrow, and an over-the-hill Jake Peavy hardly seems like a pitcher capable of breaking that trend. As amazing as Conforto's .395 career wOBA in his preferred split is, Peavy's .526 wOBA allowed to left-handed bats through 42 batters faced this season is even more incredible for all the wrong reasons.

David Peralta, ARI vs. COL ($3,500): Peralta should be a staple of DFS lineups against right-handed pitching, and doubly so with below-average starter Tyler Chatwood on the mound. He has been a major factor as Arizona's cleanup hitter with at least one RBI in five of the last seven games, and he is especially dangerous at Chase Field due to the park's hitter-friendly conditions.

Mark Trumbo, BAL vs. CWS ($4,000): Trumbo has thrived in the heart of the Baltimore order thanks in large part to a .537 wOBA against southpaws as an Oriole. White Sox starter Carlos Rodon has given up a .350 wOBA to righties in his short career and just a .230 mark to lefties, so Trumbo is well-positioned to do much of the team's damage in a game with an over/under of 8.5 runs.
