DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Kenta Maeda, LAD at SF ($9,900): Maeda has notched a 7.5 RAA with his fastball this season, while the Giants have registered the second lowest RAA in the league against the pitch. The 29-year-old boasts a 12.6 percent swinging strike rate through 25 games (23 starts), and the Giants hold just a .297 wOBA against right-handers this season.

Brandon Woodruff, MIL vs. PIT ($7,100): Woodruff has kept a ground ball rate close to 52 percent in his four starts this season, which should allow him to dictate the pace against the Pirates, who hit the fourth most ground balls in the league by percentage. It is also worth noting that Pittsburgh will enter the contest carrying a bottom-5 RAA against the slider, a pitch the rookie throws 26 percent of the time.

Catcher

Robinson Chirinos, TEX vs. SEA ($3,300): Chirinos' price is inexplicably low for a matchup against a mediocre lefty, as he has tallied a .344 ISO and a .480 wOBA against his opposite hand over 61 at-bats. Ariel Miranda has allowed 30 homers over 128.1 innings against righties in 2017, making this close to a must-play on a short slate.

First Base

Justin Smoak, TOR vs. BAL ($4,700): Opposition starter Ubaldo Jimenez has had his periods of relevance this season, but he's always been a potential stack target versus lefties, against whom he has allowed a .615 slugging percentage and a .375 OBP over 59 innings. Meanwhile, Smoak has blasted right-handed hurlers to the tune of a .277 ISO in 394 at-bats.

Second Base

Jonathan Schoop, BAL at TOR ($3,900):Marco Estrada has thrown his changeup 32 percent of the time this season despite the fact that it has yielded a -6.8 RAA. This should give Schoop a tremendous edge in the matchup due to the fact that he has registered a 7.8 RAA against the changeup, which rates as the eighth highest mark in the league among qualified hitters.

Third Base

Chase Headley, NYY at TB ($4,000):Jake Odorizzi took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his last start against the Twins, but it's extremely difficult to ignore his body of work, as he hasn't posted an ERA lower than 5.61 in any of the last three calendar months. Chase Headley has been tearing the cover off the ball through 32 at-bats in September, logging a .281 ISO over that span.

Shortstop

Tim Anderson, CWS at KC ($3,800): Anderson has notched two homers, three doubles and a triple over 33 at-bats this month, but the 24-year-old had quietly been hitting for power prior to his recent outburst, as he finished August having logged a .241 ISO in 27 games. He still strikes out too much, but Jason Hammel has notched a below average strikeout rate against right-handers this season, while also registering a 1.6 HR/9 rate.

Outfield

Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE vs. DET ($4,600):Myles Jaye has kept a 685:312 K/BB ratio over 898 innings in his minor league career, which could make him a stack target against the big bats in Cleveland's lineup. Chisenhall would qualify as one of those bats, as he has notched a .263 ISO against right-handers to go along with a .369 wOBA.

Curtis Granderson, LAD at SF ($3,900):Chris Stratton has enjoyed success as a starting pitcher, but owns a 15 percent walk rate against left-handed hitters over 16.2 innings this season, which has contributed to a bloated 6.25 xFIP. Granderson has notched a 15 percent walk rate against right-handed pitching while tallying a .248 ISO over 310 at-bats.

J.D. Martinez, ARI vs. COL ($5,500): It feels like Martinez should be a default option against lefties, as he has notched a blistering .519 ISO against his opposite hand over 77 at-bats. Kyle Freeland has struck out just 62 right-handed batters in 111.1 innings this season while allowing a .433 slugging percentage over that span.
