The postseason continues Wednesday with a critical Game 3 of the ALDS for the Blue Jays. They dropped the first two games of the series by a combined 13-4 score and now face the prospect digging a hole too deep to climb out of. A desperate team with a quality arm on the hill in such a high-stakes environment always adds some intrigue to the betting equation, and we'll analyze a couple of wagers to consider in that context.

Shane Bieber and George Kirby, two talented right-handers that pitched abbreviated regular seasons, go head to head in each pitcher's first time facing their respective opponent in 2025. Bieber was able to log seven strong starts in the regular season ahead of the playoffs but then struggled in his one postseason turn thus far, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits over 2.2 innings to the Yankees in Game 3 of the ALDS.
Nevertheless, Bieber has the experience and talent to bounce back against a group of Mariners hitters he's held to a collective .229/.263/.275 slash line across 114 career encounters. The right-hander put together a 2-1 record, 9.3 K/9 and 0.76 WHIP over a modest sample of 18.1 road innings during the season, and he sports a 2-1 record, 1.52 ERA and elite 33:0 K:BB in five career starts at T-Mobile Park.
Kirby has enjoyed an impressive postseason thus far, pitching to a 2.70 ERA over 10.1 innings across two ALDS games against the Tigers while posting a sparkling 14:1 K:BB in the same span. The hard-throwing righty was also effective at home during the regular season despite just a 5-4 record in that split, delivering a 3.38 ERA, 9.9 K/9 and 0.9 HR/9 in 66.2 innings. Kirby has had some trouble with current Blue Jays hitters in the past, however, as they own a collective .281 average and .741 OPS against him in 65 total plate appearances.
Given the factors cited and the urgency on the part of Toronto, I like an SGP that backs the Jays being down by no more than one run at the end of five and the two starters to keep scoring relatively suppressed during that span as well. iven Bieber's track record at T-Mobile and his 2.57 ERA and .167 BAA in seven regular-season first innings – as well as Kirby's 0.75 ERA and .128 BAA in 12 first innings at home this past season – an NRFI bet is also in play.
Finally, George Springer has hit safely in four of his last five playoff games after a terrific regular season and owns a career .375 average and .944 OPS against Kirby in nine career encounters, so a bet on his hits+ runs +RBI prop is also in play.
