DFS College Basketball: Monday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Monday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

DraftKings is running a three-game slate featuring a game between St. John's and Connecticut that tips off at 2:30 p.m. EST, along with two evening games. Lineups will set later on FanDuel, where the Florida State-Louisville and Baylor-Kansas matchups are the only two games featured on the slate.

Targets

1. R.J. Cole, G, Connecticut ($6,300 DK)

Cole has been somewhat inconsistent on the scoreboard to begin the season, but he played 35 minutes in the Huskies' last game and put up 30.3 DK points, his second-highest total of the season. His performance came as Connecticut only mustered 60 points as a team against DePaul, but the team enters Monday's contest with the second-highest expected total on the DFS slate. Part of his struggles earlier in the season stemmed from his 31.3 percent field goal rate, but he's had a high shot volume from the perimeter and is facing a St. John's team that allows one of the higher three-point rates in the nation. There's also the fact that James Bouknight is out indefinitely after elbow surgery, opening up more opportunities in the UConn backcourt.

2. M.J. Walker, G, Florida State ($6,200 DK, $6,600 FD)

Walker briefly exited Saturday's win over North Carolina with an ankle injury, but there's been no indication that he'll be limited against Louisville on Monday. Despite his brief departure, the senior put up one of his best scoring performances of the year with 21 points against the Tar Heels. He stepped up with Scottie Barnes (ankle) sidelined, and he should do so once again if Barnes is unable to play Monday. Even if Barnes is able to return, Walker and RayQuan Evans ($5,400 DK, $5,800 FD) could have enhanced roles in the backcourt once again.

3. Rasheem Dunn, G, St. John's ($4,700 DK)

Dunn has joined the starting five for each of the last two games, and he's played at least 30 minutes in each contest. He shot just 26.7 percent from the floor during that time, but he was a solid contributor in several other categories to prop up his DFS scoring. The team has given no indication that he'll return to the bench Monday, and his versatility could provide value for DFS players, especially if he's slightly more efficient from the floor. The Red Storm is facing a Connecticut squad that is one of the better defensive teams in the nation, but Dunn could be a value play if his recent usage continues.

Fades

1. Jalen Wilson, F, Kansas ($6,400 DK, $6,500 FD)

Kansas has the lowest expected total of any team on Monday's DFS slate, but the team has three players with fairly high DFS salaries. Wilson is coming off his worst performance of the season in Tuesday's loss to Oklahoma State, but he still carries a fairly high salary against the top defensive team in the nation in Baylor. The redshirt freshman certainly has the talent to bounce back at some point, but he could be in for another lackluster performance against the stingy Baylor defense.

2. Isaih Moore, C, St. John's ($4,600 DK)

Moore missed one game due to a violation of team rules, but he returned to the court in Saturday's loss to Marquette. However, he played an insignificant role for the Red Storm, playing a season-low eight minutes while logging only 7.3 DK points. The transfer from College of Charleston had a hot start to the year while starting eight of the first nine games of the season, but he's averaging just 14.0 minutes per game across his past four appearances. His usage following his suspension suggests that he could have a minor role for St. John's once again, especially since the team has the second-lowest expected total on the DFS slate.

3. David Johnson, G, Louisville ($6,800 DK, $5,900 FD)

Johnson is another player who played quite well to begin the year, but he's been going through a cold stretch in recent games. The sophomore has still started every game for Louisville, but he's shooting just 28.6 percent from the floor over the past two matchups. He also attempted just 14 field goals over those two contests, far below his average from earlier in the season. Although the team's game against Florida State should be competitive, neither team has a particularly high pace, which doesn't bode well for a bounce-back performance from Johnson.
