IPL 2021: Five Players to Watch in UAE Restart

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to resume in less than two weeks' time and the fans are eagerly waiting to see stars in action once again.

The competition was postponed indefinitely in May earlier this year because of a coronavirus outbreak.

The tournament is now being played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the final is scheduled to be played on October 15 in Dubai.

Since the tournament is now set to be organized at a time when international cricket is being played as well, some foreign players will not be able to join their respective franchises and therefore, there will be some new faces taking the field.

Here are five players who might prove to be an excellent acquisition this time around.

Tim David (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

First in the list features hard-hitting batsman Tim David. The 25-year-old is one of the hottest young properties in the world of T20 leagues. David—who has already played 55 T20s in his career where he has managed to score more than 1200 runs—replaces New Zealand's top-order batsman Finn Allen in the squad. The Singapore-born might prove to be a great acquisition for the RCB as he has already showcased his talent in the UAE while playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 for Lahore Qalandars.

Tabraiz Shamsi (Rajasthan Royals)

Second in the list features left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi. The 31-year-old replaces pacer Andrew Tye in the squad. Shamsi is an interesting pick

Tabraiz Shamsi (Rajasthan Royals)

Second in the list features left-arm wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi. The 31-year-old replaces pacer Andrew Tye in the squad. Shamsi is an interesting pick because despite him being the top-ranked bowler in the ICC T20I rankings, he was not signed by any franchise in the original auction of the competition. Therefore, South Africa's ace spinner in white-ball cricket will be eager to impress with his first outing in the IPL. Shamsi has played 160 T20s in his career where he has managed to claim 183 wickets at an average of 22.42.

Evin Lewis (Rajasthan Royals)

Third in the list features top-order batsman Evin Lewis. The 29-year-old has big boots to fill in the Royals squad as he replaces England's star wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler who will not be available to take part in the competition due to his personal commitments. Lewis is a vastly experienced player in T20 cricket as he has already played 177 matches in the 20-over format, scoring four centuries and 35 half-centuries.

Adil Rashid (Punjab Kings)

Fourth in the list features right-arm leg-spinner Adil Rashid. The England international replaces pacer Jhye Richardson in the squad. Rashid is an interesting pick because, despite his success in white-ball cricket for the national team, he was never signed by any franchise in the IPL. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how he will showcase his talent when he will get a chance in conditions that would be suitable for spinners. Rashid has played 201 T20s in his career where he has managed to claim 232 wickets at an average of 22.08.

Glenn Phillips (Rajasthan Royals)

Last in the list features right-handed batsman Glenn Phillips. The 24-year-old is an interesting pick because the franchise opted to sign him in place of star pacer Jofra Archer. Phillips is highly rated in the 20-over format where he has an impressive record after managing to score 3,872 runs at an average of 32.81 along with the strike-rate of 141.67, which included four centuries and 24 half-centuries.
