Weekly Rankings: Week 4 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday Update Complete

PIT-TEN has been postponed to Week 7. The Chiefs-Pats game has been postponed to Monday night at 7:05 pm ET. For now I'm not moving the likes of Patrick Mahomes or Tyreek Hill down in the rankings, but be aware that there's still a risk that it won't be played this week. The Saints had a false positive test with fullback Michael Burton, and the game will proceed as scheduled.

Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.

Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:

- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.

These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Player X vs. Player Y?" without any other mitigating factors. Of course, I welcome debate - if you think I'm wrong, let me know. But please check out

These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.

Starting after Week 1, the rankings for the subsequent week will first post on Tuesday nights, roughly around 10:00 pm PT. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning. I will post at the top of the article in bold font when ranking updates are in progress and when they're complete.

I welcome debate on the rankings in the comments. Please keep it friendly.

Quarterbacks

1.*Patrick Mahomes KC at
Note: What a command performance by Mahomes and the Chiefs on Monday night - the play calling was brilliant, as was the execution. ***This game has been pushed back until at least Monday or Tuesday due to the Cam Newton positive COVID test. I'm leaving his rank in place for now, but be aware that there's a risk that the game won't happen.***
2.Russell Wilson SEA at MIA
3.*Lamar Jackson BAL at WAS
Note: Missed on a couple of big passes, wasn't given much time to throw on other occasions.
4.Dak Prescott DAL vs. CLE
5.Josh Allen BUF at LV
6.*Kyler Murray ARZ at CAR
Note: Threw three interceptions in the loss to the Lions and it should have been four.
7.Aaron Rodgers GB vs. ATL
8.Deshaun Watson HOU vs. MIN
9.*Matthew Stafford DET vs. NO
Note: ***Moved up with the news that both starting corners for the Saints are out.***
10.Ryan Fitzpatrick MIA vs. SEA
11.Matt Ryan ATL at GB
12.*Jared Goff LA vs. NYG
Note: Rallied for a huge comeback in the second half, though the Rams allowed a game-winning touchdown at the end.
13.*Baker Mayfield CLE at DAL
Note: Upon further review, I'm moving Mayfield down a few slots.
14.*Drew Brees NO at DET
Note: ***Brees will be playing without Michael Thomas and Jared Cook.***
15.Tom Brady TB vs. LAC
16.*Joe Burrow CIN vs. JAX
Note: Someone get this man an offensive line. Burrow was sacked eight times and hit a whopping 18 times.
17.Teddy Bridgewater CAR vs. ARI
18.*Justin Herbert LAC at TB
Note: ***Tyrod Taylor has officially been ruled out.***
19.*Nick Mullens SF vs. PHI
Note: Superb game (25-of-36 for 343 yards and a TD) in relief of Jimmy G. Can he repeat it against the Eagles? Jimmy G. didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday. ***Garoppolo has officially been ruled out.***
20.Gardner Minshew JAC at CIN
21.*Kirk Cousins MIN at HOU
Note: Played better last week against the Titans than the previous week, and yet his two second-half interceptions were devastating.
22.*Nick Foles CHI vs. IND
Note: Took over to lead the comeback against the Falcons and will start against the Colts this week.
23.*Carson Wentz PHI at SF
Note: Another QB whose play merited comment from the head coach on whether he'd be benched. The OL is bad, sure, but Wentz is an active part of the problem.
24.Philip Rivers IND at CHI
25.Daniel Jones NYG at LAR
26.Derek Carr LV vs. BUF
27.*Brian Hoyer NE at
Note: ***Named the starter in place of Cam Newton, who tested positive for COVID-19. There were no more additional positive tests for the Pats on Sunday morning.***
28.*Sam Darnold NYJ vs. DEN
Note: Won't be benched this week, but the question is being asked.
29.*Dwayne Haskins WAS vs. BAL
Note: Haskins committed four turnovers in the loss to the Browns. ***Haskins is at risk of losing his job - to Kyle Allen, not Alex Smith.***
30.*Brett Rypien DEN at NYJ
Note: Named the starter over Jeff Driskel this week against the Jets on Thursday night.
31.*Mitchell Trubisky CHI vs. IND
Note: Benched in favor of Nick Foles, who will start this week.
32.*Jeff Driskel DEN at NYJ
Note: Benched in favor of Brett Rypien.
33.*Jimmy Garoppolo SF vs. PHI
Note: (Ankle) On one hand, he looks 'a lot better' this week than he did at this point last week, but his status is still uncertain and Mullens played well, albeit against the Giants. Didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday - seems unlikely to play this week. ***Officially ruled out for Week 4.***
34.*Tyrod Taylor LAC at TB
Note: (Chest) Not yet ruled out for Week 4 - the Chargers might be forced to start him over Herbert when he's ready to go, to avoid legal ramifications for the accidental puncture of his lung. Did not practice Wednesday. ***Taylor has officially been ruled out.***
35.*Cam Newton NE at
Note: ***Test positive for COVID-19 and will not play this week.***
36.*Ben Roethlisberger PIT at
Note: The NFL intends to still have the Steelers and Titans play, but it could be moved back a day or two - and that's without more positive tests. ***GAME POSTPONED***
37.*Ryan Tannehill TEN at
Note: Topped 300 yards against the Vikings, but didn't find the end zone, and the Titans had to kick six field goals. Obviously, this week's game against the Steelers is touch-and-go given the COVID outbreak on the team. ***GAME POSTPONED***

Running Backs

1.*Alvin Kamara NO at DET
Note: ***Kamara's usage should be sky-high again this week with Michael Thomas and Jared Cook out.***
2.Ezekiel Elliott DAL vs. CLE
3.Dalvin Cook MIN at HOU
4.Aaron Jones GB vs. ATL
5.Nick Chubb CLE at DAL
6.Josh Jacobs LV vs. BUF
7.*Miles Sanders PHI at SF
Note: (Glute) Limited practices Wednesday and Thursday. ***Full practice Friday - Sanders has also been removed from the injury list.***
8.Austin Ekeler LAC at TB
9.*Clyde Edwards-Helaire KC at
Note: ***Game has been postponed - tentatively scheduled for Monday or Tuesday night.***
10.James Robinson JAC at CIN
11.Jonathan Taylor IND at CHI
12.Kenyan Drake ARZ at CAR
13.*Darrell Henderson LA vs. NYG
Note: I want to be careful in not overrating Henderson's game because Cam Akers was out, but it's hard not to be impressed by his last two games.
14.Mark Ingram BAL at WAS
15.Mike Davis CAR vs. ARI
16.Melvin Gordon DEN at NYJ
17.David Johnson HOU vs. MIN
18.*Joe Mixon CIN vs. JAX
Note: This Bengals offensive line is a real problem for Mixon, it's a sequel. ***Added to the injury report Saturday with a chest injury, listed as questionable.*** ***ESPN.com's Ben Baby reports that Mixon is expected to play.***
19.*Chris Carson SEA at MIA
Note: Suffered a first-degree knee sprain in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys. The Seahawks have suggested it's possible that he plays this week, but I'm skeptical. If he practices, then I'll move him back up. Took part in Wednesday's walk-through, which qualified him as a 'limited participant.' ***Coach Pete Carroll is optimistic about Carson (though that's almost a meme with him in the past) playing, but he'll be a game-day decision.***
20.*Devin Singletary BUF at LV
Note: Singletary was great between the 20's, especially early in the game, but eternally frustrating in the red zone. He got a carry from the 1-yard on the first drive, got stuffed, and basically was out of consideration after that, with even T.J. Yeldon getting a carry inside the five-yard line.
21.Myles Gaskin MIA vs. SEA
22.*Jerick McKinnon SF vs. PHI
Note: Diagnosed with a rib contusion following the win over the Giants. The Niners will evaluate Raheem Mostert on Wednesday, which could go a long way towards setting McKinnon's value. Full practice on Wednesday.
23.David Montgomery CHI vs. IND
24.*Ronald Jones TB vs. LAC
Note: One week after taking a back seat to Fournette, Jones was the leading carrier for the Bucs and was more productive with his carries. Fournette is dealing with an ankle injury. ***Fournette is officially out.***
25.*Kareem Hunt CLE at DAL
Note: (Groin) Sat out practice Wednesday and Thursday - the Browns don't believe that the injury is significant, but two missed practices is concerning. ***Logged a limited practice Friday and is listed as questionable.*** ***Expected to play.***
26.Todd Gurley ATL at GB
27.Jeff Wilson SF vs. PHI
28.Antonio Gibson WAS vs. BAL
29.*Adrian Peterson DET vs. NO
Note: Peterson is the clear starter for the Lions, though if they're playing from behind things might work differently, as he only had one target in the passing game last week.
30.*Rex Burkhead NE at
Note: Monster game with James White out, but what will his workload look like against the Chiefs? Two years ago, he played a big part in the AFC Championship game against them. James White returned to practice, which could significantly cut Burkhead's role in the passing game. But some of that could be addressed if Sony Michel (quad) isn't available in running downs. ***Game has been postponed until Monday or Tuesday, and there's a chance it could be pushed farther back.*** ***One additional possible complication - Damien Harris could be activated from the IR - the Pats have until 4p ET on gameday, whether that's Monday or Tuesday, to decide.***
31.J.K. Dobbins BAL at WAS
32.*Nyheim Hines IND at CHI
Note: (Shoulder) Full practice Thursday after being limited on Wednesday.
33.*James White NE at
Note: (Personal) Rejoined the Pats for practice on Wednesday. ***Game has been postponed until Monday or Tuesday, and there's a chance it could be pushed farther back.***
34.Brian Hill ATL at GB
35.Latavius Murray NO at DET
36.Frank Gore NYJ vs. DEN
37.*Joshua Kelley LAC at TB
Note: Kelley saw his workload limited in part because of his fumble, and in part due to the game flow. ***Justin Jackson could also be returning to action this week.***
38.Jamaal Williams GB vs. ATL
39.Chris Thompson JAC at CIN
40.*Kerryon Johnson DET vs. NO
Note: Lost the starting job to Adrian Peterson, but drew praise for his blitz pickup.
41.*Devonta Freeman NYG at LAR
Note: While the Giants still want to use a three-man rotation, coach Joe Judge said that they will increase Freeman's role this week.
42.*Giovani Bernard CIN vs. JAX
Note: ***Joe Mixon was added to the injury report Saturday with a chest injury and is listed as questionable.***
43.Jordan Howard MIA vs. SEA
44.Boston Scott PHI at SF
45.*Travis Homer SEA at MIA
Note: Both Carson and Hyde were listed as limited on Wednesday.
46.*Sony Michel NE at
Note: (Quad) Limited practices Wednesday and Thursday. ***Listed as questionable after another limited practice.*** ***Game has been postponed until Monday or Tuesday, and there's a chance it could be pushed farther back.***
47.*LeSean McCoy TB vs. LAC
Note: ***I moved McCoy up with Leonard Fournette officially ruled out. RoJo had already been moved up.***
48.*D'Andre Swift DET vs. NO
Note: Swift only had six offensive snaps in the win over the Cardinals - the Lions clearly view him as just the pass-catching option right now - but not the pass-blocking option, as that's falling to Kerryon Johnson.
49.*Dion Lewis NYG at LAR
Note: The correct answer in the Giants backfield last week was 'none of the above.'
50.Malcolm Brown LA vs. NYG
51.Chase Edmonds ARZ at CAR
52.*Duke Johnson HOU vs. MIN
Note: (Ankle) Full practice Thursday.
53.J.D. McKissic WAS vs. BAL
54.Matt Breida MIA vs. SEA
55.Alexander Mattison MIN at HOU

Note: ***Added to the list in case Joe Mixon doesn't play this week.***
73.DeeJay Dallas SEA at MIA
74.*Zack Moss BUF at LV
Note: (Toe) Limited practices Wednesday and Thursday. ***Limited practice again on Friday, listed as questionable.***
75.*Carlos Hyde SEA at MIA
Note: Hyde will likely be in line for a lot more work this week against the Dolphins due to Chris Carson's injury. Travis Homer will likely be in during obvious passing downs. (Shoulder) Limited practice on Wednesday. ***Officially listed as questionable, as is Chris Carson.*** ***Carson is expected to play, but Hyde is expected to sit out.***
76.*Phillip Lindsay DEN at NYJ
Note: (Toe) Was a limited participant in practice Tuesday - reminder that the Broncos play Thursday. Unlikely to play Thursday night.
77.*Cam Akers LA vs. NYG
Note: Expected to sit out this week after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday practices. ***Officially ruled out.***
78.*Raheem Mostert SF vs. PHI
Note: (Knee) The Niners will evaluate Mostert before Wednesday's practice. (Knee) Did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. ***Officially ruled out.***

2.DK Metcalf SEA at MIA
3.*Amari Cooper DAL vs. CLE
Note: ***Healthy now after being 'banged up' earlier in the season.***
4.*Tyreek Hill KC at
Note: ***Game has been postponed until Monday or Tuesday, and there's a chance it could be pushed farther back.***
5.Robert Woods LA vs. NYG
6.*Kenny Golladay DET vs. NO
Note: ***The Saints won't have Marshon Lattimore or Janoris Jenkins.***
7.*DeAndre Hopkins ARZ at CAR
Note: (Ankle) Sat out practices both Wednesday and Thursday. Hopkins has some history of missing practice and then playing on Sunday, so there's some reason still left for optimism. ***Didn't practice Friday - he's officially questionable and a game-time decision.*** ***Hopkins is 'pushing to play' but remains a game-time decision.*** OFFICIALLY ACTIVE.
8.*Davante Adams GB vs. ATL
Note: (Hamstring) Adams was limited Thursday at the Packers' first practice of the week. While he's feeling a lot better than last week, he also said he's going to 'make sure he's 100 percent before he's back out there.' ***Adams had a limited practice Friday, increasing his activity. I'm moving him up as if he's going to play, and will move him back down accordingly if he doesn't practice Saturday.*** ***Practiced again on Saturday.*** ***Officially a game-time decision, but the indications are pretty positive.***
9.*Calvin Ridley ATL at GB
Note: (Ankle) Did not practice on Thursday. ***Upgraded to a limited practice Friday.*** ***Officially questionable, but the outlook is optimistic.***
10.Allen Robinson CHI vs. IND
11.*Julio Jones ATL at GB
Note: (Hamstring) Limited practice Thursday. ***Limited again on Friday - he's resumed running, and while he said he's not yet 100 percent, he also said that he's anticipating being double-covered on Monday night. I'm moving him up - if there's negative news Saturday or Sunday, I'll move him back down accordingly.*** ***Listed as questionable but expected to play.***

5.Tyler Lockett SEA at MIA
6.*DeAndre Hopkins ARZ at CAR
Note: (Ankle) Sat out practices both Wednesday and Thursday. Hopkins has some history of missing practice and then playing on Sunday, so there's some reason still left for optimism. ***Didn't practice Friday - he's officially questionable and a game-time decision.*** ***Hopkins is 'pushing to play' but remains a game-time decision.*** OFFICIALLY ACTIVE.

18.*Clyde Edwards-Helaire KC at
Note: ***Game has been postponed - tentatively scheduled for Monday or Tuesday night.***
19.Jonathan Taylor IND at CHI
20.*Darrell Henderson LA vs. NYG
Note: I want to be careful in not overrating Henderson's game because Cam Akers was out, but it's hard not to be impressed by his last two games.
21.Mark Andrews BAL at WAS
22.*George Kittle SF vs. PHI
Note: (Knee) Will be assessed on Wednesday, but Jordan Reed is out 6-8 weeks. Full practice Wednesday.

45.Mike Gesicki MIA vs. SEA
46.Noah Fant DEN at NYJ
47.Myles Gaskin MIA vs. SEA
48.*Devin Singletary BUF at LV
Note: Singletary was great between the 20's, especially early in the game, but eternally frustrating in the red zone. He got a carry from the 1-yard on the first drive, got stuffed, and basically was out of consideration after that, with even T.J. Yeldon getting a carry inside the five-yard line.

56.*Corey Davis TEN at
Note: ***GAME POSTPONED***
57.Emmanuel Sanders NO at DET
58.*Rex Burkhead NE at
Note: Monster game with James White out, but what will his workload look like against the Chiefs? Two years ago, he played a big part in the AFC Championship game against them. James White returned to practice, which could significantly cut Burkhead's role in the passing game. But some of that could be addressed if Sony Michel (quad) isn't available in running downs. ***Game has been postponed until Monday or Tuesday, and there's a chance it could be pushed farther back.*** ***One additional possible complication - Damien Harris could be activated from the IR - the Pats have until 4p ET on gameday, whether that's Monday or Tuesday, to decide.***

60.Zach Ertz PHI at SF
61.Tyler Higbee LA vs. NYG

Note: Huge breakout game, and should have a plus matchup against Houston this week.
68.*Adrian Peterson DET vs. NO
Note: Peterson is the clear starter for the Lions, though if they're playing from behind things might work differently, as he only had one target in the passing game last week.
69.*Carlos Hyde SEA at MIA
Note: Hyde will likely be in line for a lot more work this week against the Dolphins due to Chris Carson's injury. Travis Homer will likely be in during obvious passing downs. 75.Hayden Hurst ATL at GB
76.*Ronald Jones TB vs. LAC

78.T.Y. Hilton IND at CHI
79.Anthony Miller CHI vs. IND

28.Sam Ficken NYJ vs. DEN
29.*Nick Folk NE at
Note: ***Game has been postponed until Monday or Tuesday, and there's a chance it could be pushed farther back.***
30.*Elliott Fry ATL at GB
Note: ***Fry will be Younghoe Koo's replacement this week.***
31.Aldrick Rosas JAC at CIN
32.*Younghoe Koo ATL at GB
Note: Likely to miss time with a groin strain. Cameron Nizialek is the likely replacement. Did not practice Thursday.
33.*Josh Lambo JAC at CIN
34.*Brandon Wright at

35.*Cameron Nizialek at
Note: Likely replacement for Younghoe Koo. Looks to be behind Elliott Fry, who the Falcons just signed.

3.San Francisco 49ers vs. PHI
4.*Denver Broncos at NYJ
Note: See also the Rams.

6.*Green Bay Packers vs. ATL

8.*Cincinnati Bengals vs. JAX
Note: Hoping to get Geno Atkins back this week.
