The Reshuffle List: Fallout From the Third Reshuffle

Some call Masters week the greatest all year. For 47 players, it could also be called reassessment week. Matt Jones' win at the Shell Houston Open sparked the third reshuffle of the PGA Tour season, and for members of the Reshuffle List, it's time to take stock of the season and figure out what it will take to get a tour card for 2014-15.

Another note: The remaining reshuffle periods for this season are super short - with this one not even one month. The message: play well and do it NOW, as your chances are becoming fewer by the minute.

Biggest Gainers

Danny Lee, +20 spots - Lee had two solid finishes during the third reshuffle period, second at the Puerto Rico Open and a T31 at Bay Hill. He's eighth in the standings, prime to get a lot of playing opportunities through spring and summer, and only about 200 points from securing his PGA Tour card for the 2014-15 season.

Andrew Loupe, +16 - Loupe has been in the news (and rightly so in our opinion) for his chronically slow play on the PGA Tour at the end of the southern swing. But we must not overlook his strong play, which netted him this major rise in the standings. It came virtue of a tie for 12th in Puerto Rico and a tie for fourth at the Valero Texas Open. The rookie ranks 11th in driving distance and 34th in strokes gained-putting. Now if he could pick up the pace, the spotlight may be able to return to his play on the course.

Troy Merritt, +8 - Merritt's rise, conversely - and unfortunately for him - is not that noteworthy. He was in the Nothing Men category, and finally got FedEx Cup points via his ties for 46th at both The Honda Classic and Valero Texas Open. As a result, he went from being 44th (out of 48) to now 36th. His overall predicament has not changed, as he needs strong finishes in whatever remaining playing opportunities he gets this season.

Wes Roach, +7 - The Puerto Rico Open is also where Roach saw positive movement, as he tied for fourth there (a Sunday 67 helped) and backed it up with a tie for 16th three weeks later at the Valero Texas Open. Roach, now 17th on the Reshuffle List, is 68th in driving accuracy, 78th in strokes gained-putting and 24th in putting from 15-20 feet.

Ben Martin, +6 - Martin is 12th on the list, aided by his third at the Puerto Rico Open (see a theme here?). That performance was more significant for him than the others, however, because he missed the cut in all his other starts during the period. To clinch his card (he's probably 175 points away), he will need more consistent performances the rest of the season.

Biggest Losers

Heath Slocum, -8 - Slocum dropped nine spots by virtue of finishes of 79-MC-MC in the third reshuffle period. Now 23rd on the list, Slocum now also runs the risk of reduced playing opportunities. Hampering his ability to play well is a balky putter, as he is 144th in strokes gained-putting and 124th in putts from 5-15 feet.

Scott Gardiner, -6 - Gardiner dropped seven spots to 28th in the reshuffle. He also made three starts in that time and only barely did better than Slocum, racking up finishes of MC-T64-MC. His rankings in the key statistics are downright dreadful as he only has one stat - driving accuracy - in which he's in the top 100. That leads to an all-around ranking of 168th out of 180.

Tim Wilkinson, -6 - Wilkinson is 14th on the list and is in much better shape than the players mentioned above. For one thing, he has more than 209 FedEx Cup points. For another, he has two top-10 finishes this season and ranks sixth in putting from more than 25 feet and 33rd in par-5 birdie or better.

Troy Matteson, -4 - Matteson is 21st on the list after having a third reshuffle period run of MC-MC-T46-MC. Even worse, the T46 at the Valero Texas Open didn't even include a round in the 60s. In fact, he's only had one round in the 60s since January. Some of that might be due to his iron play, which has failed to get off the ground in the 2013-14 season. He ranks 162nd in greens in regulation, hitting little more than 61 percent.
