Wednesday Daily Puck: Henrik: Portrait of a Point Scorer

This article is part of our The Daily Puck series.

Around the Rink

On occasion, I have seen other hockey folks forgo the traditional opening of these Daily Puck articles, and I just completed a five day cross country drive, so I hope you will not mind too much if I break from what is typically done around here. I am no rebel. I am just a tired man. Hey, on the bright side, at least it was a fairly interesting trade deadline, right?

Hot

Henrik Sedin, C, VAN – Henrik scored both of the goals for Vancouver in a big loss Tuesday, with his brother Daniel fittingly getting a helper on both, but Henrik still has reason to celebrate. These two goals give him an eight game point scoring streak. He has a handful of multi-point games in that time, and he is averagely near a point a game at this point. The general enthusiasm about the Sedin twins has waned the last couple of seasons, but there is life in them, and in particularly in Henrik, yet.

Andrew Hammond, G, OTT – Hammond, and the Senators, took a shootout loss on Tuesday, but Hammond still played well, stopping 36 of the 38 shots he faced. Plus, he could afford to take a loss, as he had won his prior five starts, which were also his first five starts of the season. He hasn't let in more than two goals in any game, and he has two shutouts. Will a 27-year-old with little NHL experience keep this up? Probably not, but that's why he's considered "hot" at the moment.

Cold

Alex Goligoski, D, DAL – Goligoski did not come up with a point against the New York Islanders on Tuesday, which has unfortunately become business as usual for him. He has zero points in his last 10 games, but at least he managed a plus-1 rating against the Islanders. Before that, he had a six game stretch of minus performances. He's a good player, who has 24 assists on the season, but nothing is going right for him at the moment. He is still playing a ton of minutes, though, so the opportunities will be there.

Filip Forsberg, C, NAS – Forsberg is having a fine rookie season, and he got invited to the All-Star festivities and all that stuff, but he's cooled off recently. He only has two points in his last 10 games, and, he has zero points in his last four outings. He also has two minus-3 games in that time. Nashville has been a good story, and so has Forsberg, but not all stories necessarily end on a high note.

Recommended Pickup
Mike Hoffman, LW, OTT – Hoffman picked up an assist and was a plus-2 Tuesday, but that's been about business as usual for him. He's having an excellent season, with 23 goals, an excellent plus-minus, and a ton of shots. The only thing he hasn't done is get penalty minutes, but that helps the Senators, and he can still help a fantasy team. He was way under the radar when the season started, and ownership percentages indicate that a lot of people still haven't located him. Don't be among them.
