FanDuel NHL: Saturday Picks

FanDuel NHL: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

The main contests at FanDuel on Saturday consist of the nine evening games that begin at 7 EST. Here are a handful of players to consider across multiple price points while assembling your FanDuel lineups.

GOALIE

Chad Johnson, CGY vs. VAN ($8,000): Vancouver topped Calgary on Friday, so look for the Flames and Johnson to rebound in the second leg of the home-and-home series. After going winless with 15 goals against in his last four starts, Johnson handed the net back to Brian Elliott recently, but it cut into Johnson's salary significantly. This is a low-priced dart with upside.

CENTER

Joe Thornton, SAN vs. DET ($5,600): After collecting 12 assists -- five on the power play -- through 13 games, Thornton has missed the scoresheet in consecutive games. He grabs a sneaky matchup Saturday with Detroit playing its third road game in California in the last four nights. Thornton presents great value to open spending room for other players. He's the top offensive center for the Sharks in all situations, after all.

Jori Lehtera, STL vs. DAL ($4,200):
Playing with Vladimir Tarasenko and Jaden Schwartz in all situations is a nice spot for the 29-year-old pivot. Lehtera has combined with the two wingers for 4.34 goals per 60 minutes the last three seasons, and the duo has spent more than 1,000 minutes of ice time together. Plus, Dallas allows 3.0 goals per game and the fifth-most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (11.63).

WING

Leon Draisaitl, EDM at NJD ($6,600): With 2.81 points per 60 minutes and 15 power-play points this season, Draisaitl has taken all his momentum from last season and taken another step forward in 2016-17. He's playing with Connor McDavid in all situations, and the duo has posted an impressive 3.86 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five. The Devils are also on the wrong end of back-to-back games after allowing four goals to Toronto on Friday.

Ryan Spooner, BOS at FLA ($5,100):
Before his current two-game point drought, Spooner notched three goals, seven points and 15 shots with an average of 2:59 of power-play time during a five-game point streak. Florida is on the wrong end of back-to-back games, and Spooner offers an accommodating salary and could fly under the radar.

Anthony Duclair, ARI vs. NYI ($4,100):
Back to a top-line role and receiving power-play time, Duclair has registered two goals, four points and 12 shots through his past five games. While Arizona is playing its second game in consecutive nights, the Islanders also enter on the wrong end of back-to-back road games. Expect Duclair to be scarcely owned, too.

DEFENSE

Brent Burns, SAN vs. DET ($8,200): Among defensemen with at least 2,000 minutes the last two years, Burns has posted the highest points (2.16) and shots (9.79) per 60 minutes in the league. Spending up for a defenseman in deeper player pools is often a path to differentiating your lineup, and this is a nice spot for San Jose, as noted.

Andrej Sekera, EDM at NJD ($4,300):
Quarterbacking the No. 1 power-play unit puts Sekera in a nice spot to succeed. He's now two games removed from missing time with an illness and hasn't hit the scoresheet in either outing. As noted, the Devils are on the second leg of back-to-back games, and Sekera also offers the peripheral coverage (47 shots and 67 blocked shots) to provide a modest floor relative to his salary.
