On a rare Sunday morning card, Darren Till managed to pick up a decision victory over Stephen Thompson despite missing weight. The main event of UFC Fight Night 130 was rather uneventful and appeared to do very little for either fighter's career. The following is a by-the-numbers recap that highlights the stats and milestones that stood out on the main card, with stats courtesy of FightMetric.com.
Darren Till edges Stephen Thompson on the scorecards
In a 25-minute fight, Till and Thompson combined to land only 68 significant strikes. Till ended up having the edge 38 to 30. However, with both fighters landing under two significant strikes per minute, neither should be entirely happy with their performance. In the final round, Till outlanded Thompson nine to three and landed a knockdown. That seemed to be the difference in a close fight. With that being said, two of the three judges had Till up 49-46, which meant that he was set to win regardless of the outcome of the final round.
Till finished with only 59 DraftKings points. That means outside of the 30-point decision-win bonus, he netted only 29 points. The score the was second lowest score among winners on the night. He finished four points ahead of Lina Lansberg who took a decision victory on the undercard.
Neil Magny makes quick work of Craig White
Magny was expected to defeated his late-replacement opponent, and he took care of business. He landed 18 significant strikes and a knockdown and finished the fight in the first round. Despite being a huge favorite, some did not expect Magny to finish quickly since he had never scored a first-round finish in his UFC career.
Magny put up the second highest DraftKings score of the night with 112 points. The majority of his points came via the first-round finish bonus.
Arnold Allen submits Mads Burnell in the third round
Burnell had control of this fight in the first two rounds with his grappling. He landed four takedowns and four passes in those rounds. He got off to the same path in the third round with a pair of takedowns. However, Allen took advantage of an opportunity and finished the fight with a front choke. Allen managed to pull out the victory despite being outlanded 70 to 38 on total strikes.
Other than the finish, Allen was on the defensive in this fight. His DraftKings score reflects that aspect of the fight. He finished with 59.5 points, which was one of the three lowest scores for winners on the night.
Makwan Amirkhani notches epic comeback against Jason Knight
Amirkhani had a reputation after his early UFC career for finishing fights early. In this fight, he had to survive an early onslaught before coming back for the win. In the first round, Knight landed 15 significant strikes and a pair of knockdowns. However, Amirkhani got off the canvas. In the next two rounds, he edged Knight 18 to 14 on significant strikes and landed three takedowns and two passes. In the end, it was enough to sway the judges.
While the comeback was impressive, it did not turn into very many DraftKings points. Amirkhani finished with only 64.5 points. Outside of the decision-win bonus, he scored with 27 significant strikes, two passes and three takedowns.
Claudio Silva upsets Nordine Taleb with nifty ground work
Taleb came into this fight as one of the biggest favorites on the card. However, Silva proved to be too much on the ground. After a few failed takedown attempts, Silva broke through and got on top. He landed nine ground strikes, passed guard four times and then finished with the rear-naked choke. Taleb was held to only six significant strikes in the short fight.
Silva was a clear underdog in this fight, and any player who took him in DraftKings was rewarded. He finished with 116 points, which was the highest score of the night. He came in priced at $7100, which was the fourth-lowest price on the slate.
Darren Stewart finishes Eric Spicely in the second round
The story going into this fight was that Stewart needed to keep the fighting standing, while Spicely needed to get it on the floor. In the end, Stewart was able to make this a stand-up striking battle. He outlanded Spicely 25 to 15 at distance and finished the fight in the second round. Spicely failed on all four of his takedown attempts and struggled to get anything going.
Stewart finished with 97 DraftKings points. Outside of the 70-point second-round finish bonus, he scored with 34 significant strikes and a knockdown.
