Powerful leg kicks lead to win
Light HeavyweightUFC
August 7, 2021
Menifield defeated Ed Herman via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 265 on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
Typically a fighter who likes to end the proceedings early, this was the first decision victory of Menifield's career. He picked up the win on the strength of some vicious leg kicks. He made a point to target Herman's lead limb from the very start, and the strikes essentially left his opponent immobile by the end of Round 2. Menifield easily could have earned the stoppage following a huge sequence along the fence in the middle frame, but Herman somehow managed to survive. Menifield possesses explosive, high-end power, and he's coming along in terms of learning how to pick his spots a bit better. The 33-year-old has won back-to-back fights on the heels of a two-fight losing streak.

Draws Herman at UFC 265
Light HeavyweightUFC
July 29, 2021
Menifield will take on Ed Herman in a light heavyweight matchup at UFC 265 on August 7, Farah Hannoun of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Menifield recently bounced back from a two-fight losing streak to get a submission victory over Fabio Cherant in March. He'll now take on a storied veteran in the 40-year-old Herman, who happens to find himself on a three-fight winning streak of his own. The striking output numbers are nearly identical between the two men, though Herman has much more of an offensive wrestling game to rely on. Menifield is seven years younger, however, and will play the role of the up-and-comer the promotion is looking to push.
Dominates following opponent switch
Light HeavyweightUFC
March 27, 2021
Menifield defeated Fabio Cherant via submission (Von Flue choke) at 1:11 of Round 1 at UFC 260 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a dominant effort from Menifield in a spot in which he was well-positioned to excel. Facing a late-notice opponent who wasn't afforded a proper training camp and entered a half pound overweight, Menifield quickly secured a takedown before displaying excellent mat awareness in choking out the debuting Cherant. Menifield needed this win on the heels of a brief two-fight losing streak. It will be interesting to see if this helps gets the 33-year-old Texan back on track over the long term.
To face heavy opponent
Light HeavyweightUFC
March 26, 2021
Menifield will receive 20 percent of Fabio Cherant's fight purse after Cherant missed weight by a half pound for their scheduled light heavyweight matchup at UFC 260 on Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Menifield was originally scheduled to face William Knight on Saturday, though he found out just days ago that Knight would be withdrawing due to illness. Current LFA champion Fabio Cherant ultimately stepped up, but simply didn't have enough time to make the weight. The bout will remain part of the card, however, with Menifield entering as a betting favorite of roughly (-290) as of Friday afternoon.
New opponent for Saturday
Light HeavyweightUFC
March 24, 2021
Menifield will fight Fabio Cherant instead of William Knight at UFC 260 on March 27, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Menifield and Knight were initially booked to fight back in February, but it looks like such a match won't actually occur anytime soon. Instead, Menifield will take on Legacy Fighting Alliance champion Fabio Cherant.
Now fighting Knight in March
Light HeavyweightUFC
February 25, 2021
Menifield (illness) had his light heavyweight fight against William Knight rescheduled for UFC 260 on March 27, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Menifield testing positive for COVID-19 resulted in his fight against Knight being pulled from Saturday's UFC Fight Night 186 in Las Vegas card, but the two fighters will now instead get a chance to face off late March. In the meantime, Menifield's focus will be recovering from his illness.
