Gregory Rodrigues
Robocop

Brazil
Gets right back in win column
Rodrigues defeated Jack Hermansson via KO (punch) at 4:21 of Round 1 at UFC 317 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Not only did Rodrigues rebound from his five-round main event loss to Jared Cannonier in February, but he appeared to learn from it as well. "Robocop" started very aggressively in that fight and eventually gassed out. He was much more patient here, picking his spots before nuking Hermansson with a left hand to the chin late in Round 1. The fight was over in an instant, although Rodrigues added one additional blow for good measure before referee Herb Dean pulled him away. The resounding victory would go on to earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. While it was a worthy performance, a win over Hermansson doesn't mean anywhere near as much as it did even a couple years ago. Rodrigues, who has won four of five dating back to August 2023, it still looking for that one career-defining victory to put him over the top in terms of possible title contention at 185 pounds.

Set to fight in June
Rodrigues will take on Jack Hermansson at UFC 317 on Jun. 28, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodrigues will look for his first win in the 2025 year after being knocked out by Jared Cannonier back in February. The Brazilian middleweight is now 7-3 since starting up his UFC career in 2021. He'll take on another veteran in Hermansson, who is coming off a huge win back in February over Joe Pyfer.

Fades following fast start
Rodrigues lost to Jared Cannonier via TKO (punches) at 0:21 of Round 4 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Entering on a three-fight winning streak and with victories in five of his past six bouts, Rodrigues was competing in his first UFC main event. He got off to a flying start, landing some massive blows and clearly getting the better of the action in Round 1. Then he gassed out. Badly. As Daniel Cormier and Paul Felder correctly pointed out on the broadcast, it's difficult to imagine a guy scheduled to fight five rounds could be exhausted in six or seven minutes, but it happened. Rodrigues got back on track a bit in Round 3, only to get dropped late in the frame with short elbow. He almost certainly would have been finished if there were even five extra seconds on the clock. So, while "Robocop" made it to the end of the stanza, he was put away early in Round 4. Set to turn 33 years of age in a couple days, this felt like a fight Rodrigues had to have if he wanted to truly rise up the rankings at 185 pounds. It wasn't meant to be. On the bright side, the back-and-forth affair would go on to earn both competitors a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus.

Cannonier up next
Rodrigues is scheduled to compete against Jared Cannonier in a middleweight fight at UFC Vegas 102 on Feb. 15, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
2024 was an excellent year for Rodrigues, who went 2-0 by finishing Brad Tavares and outlasting Christian Leroy Duncan. Cannonier is the UFC's No. 8 middleweight, so an impressive win over him can get Rodrigues ranked high at 2025's onset.

Strong run continues
Rodrigues defeated Christian Leroy Duncan via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 304 on Saturday in Manchester, England.
ANALYSIS
This was a complete effort from Rodrigues, as he dominated Duncan in all aspects of this fight. The Brazilian landed four takedowns, good for a whopping 8:20 worth of control time. Rodrigues also landed the far more damaging blows, to the point that Duncan was forced to try to grapple himself because he was worried about the power coming back his way. It's rarely pretty, but Rodrigues is 5-1 in his past six fights dating back to June 2022. He's due a pretty significant jump up in competition his next time out.

Improves to 4-1 in past five fights
Rodrigues defeated Brad Tavares via TKO (punches) at 0:55 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This set up as a perfect matchup for Rodrigues on paper and played out that way inside the Octagon. Gregory is primarily a brawler with a highly-questionable chin, but he was facing an opponent in Tavares without a knockout in nearly six years. That meant Rodrigues could continue to push the pace without fear of what was coming back his way. The Brazilian mixed in a pair of takedown attempts before destroying Tavares with repeated, unanswered shots early in Round 3. He absolutely looked the part of a -250 favorite. Rodrigues is going to have his struggles at time due to his durability issues, but he's also capable of dominant performances such as this one. The soon-to-be 32-year-old improves to 4-1 in his past five fights.
