2025 Cincinnati Open: American Teen Among Tuesday's Top Picks

Third-round play continues Tuesday on the fast hard courts of the Cincinnati Open. Favored seeds on the men's side could put an end to some American runs in this tournament, but an American teenager in the women's draw is in good position to score one of the biggest wins of her young career.

All men's and women's singles matches at the Cincinnati Open are best of three sets. A mix of players' previous hard court results, recent form and stylistic matchups can help pinpoint intriguing betting opportunities, both among favorites likely to cruise to victory and underdogs ready to pull off upsets. The aforementioned underdogs are highlighted in the Upset Alert section, the Lock It In section covers players who can safely be viewed as overwhelming favorites, while the Value Bets section recommends enticing options in matchups that are considered closer to toss-ups.

Cincinnati Open Tennis Picks: Upset Alert

Ella Seidel (+275) vs. McCartney Kessler

Seidel just pulled off an improbable comeback from 4-1 down in the third set to stun No. 8 seed Emma Navarro, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4, in the third round. The 20-year-old qualifier's teeming with confidence, having already won four matches to get to this point, and Seidel can swing freely after the surprising escape against Navarro. The 32nd-ranked Kessler is having a breakout season at age 26, but the American hasn't played her best tennis at the biggest tournaments, with just an 8-7 record in WTA 1000 events in 2025, along with a mark of 0-3 in Grand Slam matches.

Lucia Bronzetti (+215) vs. Jelena Ostapenko

This match will come down to how Ostapenko plays, as she'll hug the baseline and control play with big groundstrokes, for better or worse. The 30th-ranked Latvian's just 17-18 since the start of last year's Cincinnati Open, as he can make deep runs when her timing's on but is also susceptible to bad losses due to her error-prone, low-margin game style. The 61st-ranked Bronzetti's coming off a top-20 win over Daria Kasatkina in the second round, while Ostapenko still hasn't gotten a chance to get used to the conditions here, as she advanced via walkover against Camila Osorio in the second round following a first-round bye.

Honorable Mention

Ashlyn Krueger (+185) vs. Jasmine Paolini

Cincinnati Open Tennis Odds: Lock It In

Alexander Zverev (-330) vs. Brandon Nakashima

Nakashima has done well to climb into the seeded range, consistently beating lower-ranked opponents, but the 24-year-old American hasn't quite managed to break through against top players such as Zverev. The third-ranked German has won all four of their previous encounters and has an 11-2 head-to-head edge in sets, including a straight-sets win over Nakashima in Stuttgart this year.

Karen Khachanov (-240) vs. Jenson Brooksby

Khachanov has an 89-spot edge in the rankings at No. 12, and he's been outplaying his already impressive ranking recently, making the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and a Masters 1000 final at the Canadian Open in his previous two tournaments. His excellent rally tolerance should help the Russian successfully pick his spots rather than taking unnecessary risks and overhitting against Brooksby's unconventional style when they get into longer rallies, and Khachanov should have a significant edge in shorter rallies due to his superior serve.

Honorable Mention

Jakub Mensik (-450) vs. Luca Nardi

Cincinnati Open Tennis Predictions: Value Bets

Alexei Popyrin (+160) vs. Andrey Rublev

This matchup looks like a true toss-up if not lean Popyrin, making the Aussie an excellent value. Popyrin leads the head-to-head 2-1 over Rublev, with straight-sets wins in each of their last two matches. Rublev's subpar returning will make it awfully difficult to break the big-serving Popyrin in these fast conditions, while the mercurial Russian can occasionally dump service games when he goes through stretches of errors or loses his temper. Popyrin's currently playing some of the best tennis of his career, having climbed to a career-high 19th in the rankings, while Rublev has dipped to 11th after spending much of the previous few years in the top 10.

Iva Jovic (+110) vs. Barbora Krejcikova

We have seen numerous teenagers establish themselves as contenders for big titles over the past few years, with Victoria Mboko most recently joining that list with her Canadian Open title. Jovic may soon be another such teenage success story, as the 17-year-old American turned heads with a 6-3, 6-0 drubbing of world No. 23 Linda Noskova in the second round. The 80th-ranked Krejcikova plays very differently from her younger Czech compatriot, but this is only the seventh tournament of the season for Krejcikova, who has dealt with back and thigh injuries in 2025. Hard-court tennis isn't kind to the body, so the oft-injured 29-year-old could have some physical limitations in this one while Jovic is swinging freely after being given a second chance at this tournament as a lucky loser.

Honorable Mention

Clara Tauson (-165) vs. Veronika Kudermetova
