DraftKings MLB: Tuesday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jake Arrieta, CHC vs. MIA ($9,000): One of Arrieta's biggest weaknesses during his decline has been the long ball, but that should be mitigated with the wind projected to be howling in at Wrigley Field on Tuesday. Arrieta has also allowed just five earned runs while striking out 22 batters through 18 innings over his past three starts, and Miami's 22nd-ranked .314 wOBA against righties isn't a deterrent, either.

James Paxton, SEA vs. MIN ($8,800): The lefty spun 5.1 scoreless innings in his return from the disabled list to prove his health. Paxton boasts a 1.45 FIP and 30.2 strikeout percentage for the campaign, and his salary stands out as a significant discount, especially in a favorable matchup. The Twins enter with a target-worthy .298 wOBA against southpaws this season.

CATCHER

Cameron Rupp, PHI at ATL ($2,700): Despite a tough matchup against Jaime Garcia (just a .300 wOBA allowed to right-handed hitters), Rupp's prowess against left-handed arms and low salary are still attractive. After all, the backstop has posted a 1.016 OPS and .424 wOBA over 116 plate appearances against southpaws dating back to last season.

FIRST BASE

Eric Thames, MIL vs. SFG ($4,900): Dating back to 2015, Matt Cain has allowed a .378 wOBA to left-handed hitters. It's a favorable setup for Thames. The first baseman sports a .310 ISO and .416 wOBA against right-handed hurlers this season, and Thames moved into the three-hole of the lineup Monday.

SECOND BASE

Javier Baez, CHC vs. MIA ($4,100): The wind is projected to be blowing in at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, but Baez's mashed lefties the past two years with a .352 wOBA. He's also been at his best at home this season with a .300 ISO and .395 wOBA. There is nothing scary about the matchup against Jeff Locke, either. The southpaw has surrendered a .364 wOBA to righty bats dating back to last season.

THIRD BASE

Kris Bryant, CHC vs. MIA ($4,600): The slugger has gone 14 games without recording a multi-hit game and sports a .660 OPS during that stretch. Bryant homered Monday, and sports a jaw-dropping 1.093 OPS, .342 ISO and .450 wOBA against southpaws dating back to last season. As noted, it isn't a difficult matchup for his to build on Monday's bomb, either.

SHORTSTOP

Asdrubal Cabrera, NYM at TEX ($3,800): This is a cushy salary to take a flier on Cabrera against Dillon Gee. Gee will be making his first start of the season, and he allowed a .341 wOBA and 1.95 HR/9 to left-handed hitters dating back to last season. Additionally, after posting a .342 wOBA against righties last year, Cabrera's current .308 mark has positive regression ahead.

OUTFIELD

Nelson Cruz, SEA vs. MIN ($4,900): With Hector Santiago holding right-handed hitters to an unsustainably low .267 wOBA, this could be sneaky spot to utilize Cruz. This is also a manageable salary considering his 1.033 OPS, .323 ISO and .428 wOBA against southpaws dating back to 2015. Santiago's recent results might keep Cruz's ownership down, too.

Seth Smith, BAL vs. PIT ($3,700): With Ivan Nova slipping of late and sporting a 4.17 ERA through his past six starts, this is a soft matchup to target Smith. He's locked into the leadoff spot against righties and sports a .348 on-base percentage and .349 wOBA against them at home this season.

Curtis Granderson, NYM at TEX ($3,300): Another cheap option to utilize against Dillon Gee, Granderson owns a .412 on-base percentage during his current 13-game homer drought. Considering his power track record, a slump-busting showing appears imminent. The outfielder's current .304 wOBA against right-handed arms is well below the .349 mark he posted last season, too.
