FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Picks

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Wednesday's main slate of game offers 11 games to choose from. There are mostly early games, but that includes a contest in Cleveland which might not get played. Let's dive into the player pool and see who we should consider.

Pitching

Kevin Gausman, SF vs. ARI ($10,300): This is one of those picks that is "set it and forget it" for cash games. There are a ton of stats to back up this statement. The Diamondbacks have been horrible against right-handed pitching this season with a .291 wOBA, the second-worst mark in baseball. Their 24.7 percent strikeout rate is ninth worst against righties and Gausman has been fantastic at home this season. Kevin (what a great name) has a 0.92 WHIP at home this season along with a 11.0 K/9IP mark.

Touki Toussaint, ATL vs. CIN ($7,700): Toussaint is a bit of a contrarian play and I'd only recommend him for GPPs given his volatility. He has the ability to strike out 10 batters or give up seven runs in only four innings, both of which he's done this season. Again, only consider him for tournaments, but he has scored 42 and 52 fantasy points in two of his last four starts.

Top Targets

Vladimir Guerrero, TOR at LAA ($4,600): Despite traveling to a different country and bring on the other side of that country, I think Vlad is a good play (not that this is going out on a limb). Dylan Bundy has been pretty bad this season (6.14 ERA) and even worse at home (6.75 ERA), while Guerrero continues to have reverse splits with a .449 wOBA against right-handed pitchers.

Max Muncy, LAD at PHI ($3,700): The Dodgers are a bit banged up these days with both Mookie Betts and Justin Turner dealing with injuries. Luckily, Muncy is healthy and gets a nice matchup in Philadelphia against Kyle Gibson. This game carries an over/under of 10 runs and Los Angeles is the favorite (-135), meaning they should score around six runs. Muncy has a career .363 wOBA against right-handed pitching while Gibson has a career .336 wOBA against left-handed hitters.

Value Bats

Miguel Cabrera, DET at BAL ($2,800): He would be in the Top Targets section if it were 8-10 years ago, but Cabrera is still a good value play. He should be hitting in his usual cleanup spot and this game has a 10.5 run over/under, with the Tigers favored. Cabrera has scored fantasy points in every game since July 23 and is averaging 15 fantasy points per game in that span.

Marwin Gonzalez, BOS vs. TB ($2,200): Here's a player at almost a minimal hit to your salary cap yet with upside. Gonzalez qualifies at second base on FanDuel and historically has hit left-handed pitching well (lefty Josh Fleming is slated to start for Tampa). Gonzalez has a .324 wOBA against southpaws this season and had a .324 wOBA in three of the last four seasons against that handedness.

Stacks To Consider

Detroit Tigers vs. Matt Harvey: Cabrera, Jonathan Schoop ($3,400), Akil Baddoo ($3,200), Robbie Grossman ($3,200)

I write this piece twice a week and I swear it's become a rule that Matt Harvey has to pitch on one of those two days. Again, there's a high over/under here, and as dismal as the Tigers' offense has been they should put up runs in this game. Baddoo left Tuesday night's game with an injury so you may have to pivot to another Tiger (preferably whoever is leading off) to complete this stack. Look for the others to provide the power, with Grossman leading the way with a career-high 17 home runs this season.
