Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Ervin Santana, MIN at SD ($39): Santana appears to have run out of gas after a strong start to the season, but still holds a 2.59 ERA in 66 innings away from home. The veteran should find himself in an advantageous matchup, as the Padres have tallied the third lowest wOBA in the league against right-handed pitching.

Zack Godley, ARI at CHC ($44): Godley has notched an impressive 14 percent swinging strike rate this season, a mark that has been bested by only five starters. The Cubs strike out 22 percent of the time against right-handers, and hit the ball on the ground at a 46 percent clip, which should allow Godley to use his heavy groundball rate to full advantage.

Catcher

Brian McCann, HOU vs. TB ($10): Austin Pruitt didn't fare well in his second start of the season last week, as he allowed three home runs in just five innings against the Yankees. McCann has notched a .166 ISO and 36 percent hard contact rate against his opposite hand this season, and should be able to square up the baseball against someone like Pruitt, who notched a below average strikeout rate in his time as a starter in the minor leagues.

First Base

Mark Reynolds, COL vs. NYM ($17): Chris Flexen was hammered in his major-league debut against the Padres, when he surrendered four runs (three earned) in three innings. He walked four batters while striking out just two over that span. Reynolds has tallied a .260 ISO to go along with a .401 wOBA against righties this season, and is one of the few power bats that can be had for under $20 against the rookie.

Second Base

Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs. KC ($22): Schoop has shown tremendous power against lefties in 2017, as evidenced by his .305 ISO over 105 at-bats. Vargas logged a 7.32 ERA and a .654 slugging percentage over 18.1 innings in July, which rates as the worst month he has had in a season in more than five years.

Third Base

Paul DeJong, STL at MIL ($16): DeJong is another young player who has done his best work against southpaws. The rookie has registered a .389 ISO and a .438 wOBA through 36 at-bats. Brent Suter has thrown the ball well this season, but may not be the best candidate to exploit a free swinger like DeJong, as he has struck out less than 21 percent of the right-handed batters he has faced.

Shortstop

Amed Rosario, NYM at COL ($14): Rosario isn't the type of prospect who will blow you away with his power, but he should be able to use his solid contact rate and speed to be a productive bat going forward. Good things tend to happen when hitters put the ball in play against Tyler Chatwood at Coors Field, as he has kept a 6.14 ERA over 44 innings at home.

Outfield

Clint Frazier, NYY vs. DET ($17): Frazier has shown the ability to handle major-league pitching since joining the big club in July. He boasts a .255 ISO and a 45 percent hard contact rate over 94 at-bats. Opposition starter Jordan Zimmermann has allowed a .514 slugging percentage and a 37 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters over 56.2 innings.

Khris Davis, OAK at SF ($19): Davis has done his best work against righties, but shouldn't be overlooked when it comes to southpaws, against whom he has notched a hard contact rate of better than 55 percent. Matt Moore has surrendered a 35 percent hard contact rate and holds a 4.96 xFIP against righties this season.

Kevin Pillar, TOR at CWS ($10): Pillar is a sneaky value play against lefties thanks to his .235 ISO and .389 wOBA in 98 at-bats. Meanwhile, Derek Holland has allowed 22 homers over 82.2 innings against right-handed hitters.
