Yahoo DFS Basketball: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

Wednesday is shaping up to be an exciting night in the NBA as not only does Paul George play his first game in Indiana against his old team in the Pacers, but Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks are taking on DeMarcus Cousins and the New Orleans Pelicans. There could be plenty of scoring on the nine-game slate, leaving lots of excellent options for your Yahoo entry. Let's take a look at players you want to both target and avoid to make your evening a successful one.

GUARDS

Victor Oladipo, IND vs. OKC ($46): Oladipo is rolling right now, scoring at least 43.6 Yahoo points in six of his last seven games. He has been one of the biggest surprises in fantasy this season as he is in the top-10 in the league in both points per game (24.5) and usage rate (30.7%). He scored 35 points on his way to 47 Yahoo points against the Thunder earlier this year and may again be primed to show his old team what they are missing Wednesday.

David Nwaba, CHI vs. UTA ($11): While Oladipo's success has been a surprise this year, the same can be said for Nwaba. He showed signs of being productive early on, scoring at least 27.2 Yahoo points in three of five games before going down with an ankle injury. He's healthy again and even though the Bulls bench is deeper now with Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic back, Nwaba has played a huge role in their recent success. He has played 27 minutes in each of the last three games, scoring at least 24.7 Yahoo points in each contest. At almost the minimum price, look for him to provide value again Wednesday.

Guard to Avoid

Justin Holiday, CHI vs. UTA ($20): Holiday is a really streaky shooter who can either help carry an offense when he is hot or drag it down when his shots aren't falling. He's attempting a career-high 13.0 shots per game, but is only shooting 36.5% from the field. That means he's been cold more often than not, which has been the case lately as he has scored 16.8 Yahoo points or less in two of the last four games. Nwaba could at least come close to matching Holiday's production Wednesday at almost half the price, so Holiday might be someone to stay away from.

FORWARDS

Giannis Antetokounmpo, MIL at NO ($58): If you are looking for a top-tier option with a safe floor, Giannis has come through with at least 41.1 Yahoo points in every game this season. He brings a high ceiling as well, scoring at least 60.8 Yahoo points eight times. The Pelicans play at the sixth-fastest pace (102.4) in the league, so look for Giannis to put together another monster stat line Wednesday.

Marvin Williams, CHA at HOU ($13): The Hornets gained some depth in their frontcourt with the return of Frank Kaminsky from an ankle injury Monday, but Williams still played 32 minutes and scored 28.4 Yahoo points in that game. The Rockets like to go small and shoot threes, which favors Williams' style of play. Both the Hornets and Rockets are in the top-10 in the league in terms of pace of play, leaving Williams as a value play to consider at this price.

Forward to Avoid

Derrick Favors, UTA at CHI ($26): Favors has seen a significant drop in production, scoring 23.6 Yahoo points or less in each of the four games since Rudy Gobert returned from injury. That should come as little surprise as he wasn't very productive at the start of the season when Gobert was healthy either. The Bulls like to go small, which does not suit Favors' game. Stay away from him at this price.

CENTERS

Rudy Gobert, UTA at CHI ($30): Gobert had his best performance since his return when he scored 33.3 Yahoo points Saturday against the Bucks. It's no coincidence that it coincided with the most minutes he has played (29) since returning as well. The Bulls allow the 10th-most Yahoo points per game (50.6) to opposing centers, so Gobert could be in for a nice performance if his minutes continue to increase.

Aron Baynes, BOS vs. DEN ($10): Baynes is likely going to get extended minutes Wednesday as Al Horford (rest) and Marcus Morris (knee) both won't play. Baynes has played at least 24 minutes in a game five times this season and came away with at least 23.6 Yahoo points in three of them. Considering he won't cost you much, he might be worth the risk.

Center to Avoid

Robin Lopez, CHI vs. UTA ($19): This is a bad matchup for Lopez against the defensive-minded Gobert. Lopez is already cold coming into this one, scoring 19.6 Yahoo points or fewer in both of his last two games. The Bulls finally have some depth up front, so expect Lopez to see limited minutes more often than he was earlier this season. He's not worth the risk against Gobert and the Jazz on Wednesday.
