Yahoo DFS Hockey: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Now that Daylight Saving Time has ended, it's getting dark by dinner time in most of the country. So why not just settle in and watch some hockey Monday night? There are four games on the NHL slate. Here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your daily fantasy lineup.

GOALIE

Alexandar Georgiev, NYR vs. OTT ($31): Georgiev has gotten more action early this season, and it's not just because Henrik Lundqvist is getting up there in years. The 23-year-old has earned his playing time with a 2.27 GAA and .933 save percentage. He's getting a start at home against Ottawa, who has only scored 2.58 goals per game.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Matt Murray, PIT at BOS ($34): You probably think of the Bruins as defensive stalwarts, and that's true. However, this year they are also offensive dynamos. Boston has averaged 3.54 goals and 33.8 shots on net per contest. That will make things tough for Murray, especially on the road.

CENTER

Ryan Johansen, NAS at DET ($20): Johansen got off to a hot start, but he's slowed down sense. However, he still has 10 points in 14 games, including five on the power play. This is a good matchup to get his game back on track. The Red Wings have a 3.80 GAA, third-highest in the NHL, and also the 28th-ranked penalty kill.

CENTER TO AVOID

Evgeni Malkin, PIT at BOS ($26): Malkin just returned to action, but there's a chance he's not up to full speed just yet. He's only played in three games all year, after all. Facing the Bruins is not the way to get yourself into the flow by any means. Boston has a 2.00 GAA, lowest in the NHL.

WING

Filip Forsberg, NAS at DET ($22): Like Malkin, Forsberg just returned from injury recently. In his two games since rejoining the team, though, he has an assist and eight shots on goal. He's also got a much easier matchup than Geno. As I mentioned earlier, the Red Wings have a 3.80 GAA.

Pavel Buchnevich, NYR vs. OTT ($18): Buchnevich just saw his four-game point streak end, but he still has eight points in 11 contests. He's also started 51.7 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, second highest among New York forwards. In addition to their 3.42 GAA, the Senators have allowed 34.8 shots o net per game, second most in the league.

WINGS TO AVOID

Anthony Mantha, DET vs. NAS ($23): Mantha has 14 points in 15 games, although his point total is bolstered by the fact he had seven points in the first two games of the season. The concern here, though, is a matchup with Pekka Rinne, who has a 2.19 GAA and a .920 save percentage.

Phil Kessel, ARI at EDM ($20): After a slow start with his new team, Kessel is starting to turn it around. That being said, he still only has three goals through 13 games. I'm not sure how much I believe in it, but the Oilers have a 2.47 GAA right now, plus the eighth-ranked penalty kill.

DEFENSE

Ryan Ellis, NAS at DET ($20): Ellis is dishing out assists, as he has 12 helpers through 14 games. He's also added 26 shots on net and 24 blocked shots. As I've mentioned before, the Wings have a 3.80 GAA, and they've also given up 33.7 shots on net per contest.

Brady Skjei, NYR vs. OTT ($16): Skjei has started 54.9 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, second most on the Rangers. This may be why his offensive output is up to start this year, as he's put 25 shots on net through 11 games. The Senators have given up 34.8 shots on net per contest, so Skjei may put some pucks on goal in this one.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Kris Letang, PIT at BOS ($25): Somewhat surprisingly, Letang has only one point in his last six games. His price is still quite high, though, given that he has quite the track record. You know who also has an impressive track record? The Bruins, who have a 2.00 GAA.

Oscar Klefbom, EDM vs. ARI ($20): Klefbom got off to a hot start, but he doesn't have a point in his last eight games. This may not be the day for him to end that drought. The Coyotes have a 2.15 GAA, thanks largely to a .929 save percentage as a team.
