Day-to-Day (Including DL players close to returning)

Anton Volchenkov (D) New Jersey - (Broken Nose) Missed Monday, not expected back Wednesday.
Brian Rolston (F) New Jersey - (Groin) Will miss Wednesday's game and could be out several games.
Jonathan Tavares (F) Islanders - (Concussion) Out until Saturday at the earliest.
James Wisniewski (D) Islanders - (Suspension)  Eligible to return Saturday after two-game suspension.
Matt Bradley (F) Capitals - (Undisclosed) Left Monday's game after just several shifts.
Marcus Johansson (F) Capitals - (Foot) Didn't practice Tuesday and is considered week-to-week.
Tom Poti (D) Capitals - (Undisclosed) Poti was a game-time scratch Monday with undisclosed ailment.
Semyon Varlamov (G) Capitals - (Groin) Getting close, Michal Neuvirth is expected to start Wednesday.
Roman Hamrlik (D) Montreal - (Knee) 1992 No. 1 overall draft pick expected to return Wednesday.
Andrei Markov (D) Montreal - (Knee) Out Wednesday, no firm timetable, "hoping" for Saturday.
Zbynek Michalek (D) Pittsburgh - (Shoulder) Pens didn't practice Tuesday, no update, probably out.
Brooks Orpik (D) Pittsburgh - (Groin) Orpik could miss second straight game Wednesday.
Aaron Asham (F) Pittsburgh - (Shoulder) Out Wednesday and will likely miss rest of week.
Martin Erat (F)  Nashville - (Back) Missed Monday's practice and not expected to play Wednesday.
Sergei Kostitsyn (F) Nashville - (Foot) Missed Nashville's opener Saturday, questionable Wednesday.
Pekka Rinne (G) Nashville - (Lower Body) Questionable for Wednesday's game against Chicago.
Niklas Hjalmarsson (D) Chicago - (Suspension) Out Wednesday and Friday due to suspension.
Alexandre Bolduc (F) Vancouver - (Ankle) Missed Monday and is awaiting MRI results.
Dan Hamhuis (D) Vancouver - (Groin) Didn't practice Tuesday but expected to play Wednesday.
Rick Rypien (F) Vancouver - (Ribs) Fourth liner could make season debut Wednesday.

Long Term or IR

Jason Pominville (F) Buffalo - (Concussion) Out Wednesday and will likely miss a couple weeks.
Jordan Staal (F) Pittsburgh - (Foot Infection) Eligible to return from IR on Oct. 24, but likely out until November.
Brian Campbell (D) Chicago - (Knee) Counting down the weeks now, probably about three more.
Joffrey Lupul (F) Anaheim - (Back) Could return from IR sometime in November.
Andy Sutton (D) Anaheim - (Broken Finger) Out until late November following fight w/Ruslan Salei.

James Wisniewski (D) Islanders - Suspended two games, eligible to return Saturday.
Andrew Hutchinson (D) Pittsburgh - Recalled from the AHL to replace Orpik or Michalek Wednesday.
Jiri Tlusty (F) Carolina - Assigned to the AHL on a conditioning stint.
Adam Mair (F) New Jersey - Signed by New Jersey Tuesday due to injuries.
Jeff Finger (D) Toronto - Placed on waivers Tuesday by Toronto.
Kirk Maltby (F) Detroit - Announced his retirement Tuesday, more character than most.
Kris Draper (F) Detroit - Placed on IR Tuesday but could return later in week.
Thomas Greiss (G) San Jose - Placed on waivers Sunday and hasn't been claimed, surprisingly.

Jordan Leopold (D) Buffalo - Enjoy the ride, four points (2, 2) in three games, while he's healthy.  He's teased more than one team in his career with his offensive potential, but hasn't totaled more than 33 points in seven seasons. Still, with an acquisition cost of next to nothing, Leopold is taking advantage of opportunity. Pump-and-Dump.
Steven Stamkos (F) Tampa Bay - He's on a pace for a 246-point season after his three-point performance in the opener. Remember when 200 points was doable or at least thinkable?
Mark Letestu (F) Pittsburgh - Letestu has a pair of goals in three games and is skating as a top-six forward.  Who knows if he can keep it going, but he's a good play in the meantime (and likely available almost universally).

Tyler Myers (D) Buffalo - Myers is a minus-5 after three games. He wasn't minus-5 in three consecutive games at any point during his rookie year. Hopefully this is just an anomaly.
Brian Rafalski (D) Detroit - How can someone go from "Hot" to "Cold" so fast? Knee Surgery - he's out 3-4 weeks. Was he the second best American player in the Olympics?
