Gutierrez lost to Yadong Song via unanimous decision (44-50, 45-50, 45-50) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This looked like a difficult matchup for Gutierrez on paper and played out that way inside the Octagon. Chris is known as a volume puncher with good footwork, but Song entered with a significant power edge, making it difficult for Gutierrez to make any headway on the feet. Chris appeared openly frustrated at times between rounds, particularly late. He remained upright throughout Round 1, but found himself planted on his back each of the next four frames. He defended fine on the mat, and Song didn't exactly dominate from top position, but it helped drain the clock. Simply put, there wasn't enough urgency from Chris in a fight he was clearly losing on the scorecards. Gutierrez is 8-2-1 in his past 11 fights, so he's been terrific, but at 32 years of age, he has no notable wins over high-end competition, and he didn't show well in his attempt to pick one up on this night.

Cruises to decision win

Gutierrez defeated Heili Alateng via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Gutierrez was originally due to face Montel Jackson on last week's card. That fell apart, and he was eventually re-booked to go up against Alateng here. It ended up being a far easier fight for Chris, as he simply fired off repeated leg kicks that left his opponent hobbled for the remainder of the bout. It was a simple, effective game plan for Gutierrez and one which resulted in him absorbing virtually no damage from his opponent. The 32-year-old Factory X product has been a revelation since his November 2018 UFC arrival, going 8-2-1 in his first 11 fights with the company.

Unbeaten streak snapped at seven

Gutierrez lost to Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC on ESPN 44 on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Gutierrez entered unbeaten in his past seven fights (6-0-1) dating back to August 2019, and that resulted in Chris finding himself a surprising -210 favorite. He was due for a poor performance, and we got one here. Munhoz hits very hard for a bantamweight, and Gutierrez had all sorts of issues with his pace and constant pressure. Chris relies on his power and striking to be successful, and Pedro simply didn't allow him any room on the feet to get comfortable. It's certainly worth noting that Munhoz is the best opponent the 31-year-old Texan has faced to date, so the fact he wasn't particularly competitive in this fight is concerning.
