Unbeaten streak hits six
BantamweightUFC
October 9, 2021
Gutierrez defeated Felipe Colares via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This fight was not as close as the scorecards would lead you to believe. It was another solid effort for Gutierrez in a fight in which he entered as a hefty (-250) favorite. Blessed with a significant edge in both speed and power in the stand-up, Gutierrez connected on a whopping 66 percent (115-165) of his total strikes. He also got stronger as the fight progressed, which (most) judges like to see. The 30-year-old Texan has been an extremely pleasant surprise since arriving on the scene in late 2018. Gutierrez is unbeaten (5-0-1) since dropping his UFC debut to Raoni Barcelos. Gutierrez should get a bit better opponent his next time out. He deserves it.

Gutierrez defeated Andre Ewell via unanimous decision (30-26, 29-28, 29-27) at UFC 258 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was an excellent performance by Gutierrez, and one in which he got considerably better as the fight progressed. After a back-and-forth first few minutes, Gutierrez dropped Ewell with a high kick on the closing seconds of Round 1. Gutierrez continued with the pressure throughout Round 2 before unloading everything but the kitchen sink on Ewell in Round 3. The 29-year-old Texan excels at switching stances on the feet in addition to possessing devastating leg kicks. Gutierrez is unbeaten in his past five fights (4-0-1) since being submitted by Raoni Barcelos in his company debut back in November 2018.

Can't overcome slow start
BantamweightUFC
August 1, 2020
Gutierrez fought to a unanimous draw (28-28, 28-28, 28-28) against Cody Durden at UFC on ESPN+ 31 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It couldn't have been a worse start for the (-260) betting favorite, as Gutierrez was taken down early in the frame and allowed Durden to take his back. Durden piled on a striking lead while holding this position for the rest of the round, potentially picking up a 10-8 in the process. The second round fared much better for Gutierrez, as he was able to control the striking game with steady shots to the legs and body. While he was taken down in the final minute of Round 2, Gutierrez locked in a sneaky arm bar attempt and nearly scored a submission. The third round started in the striking game, and was paused briefly after Gutierrez absorbed a groin strike roughly 90 seconds in. Knowing he was going against a fighter taking the fight on short notice, he hardly took any time and jumped back into action. Gutierrez was by far the fresher fighter in the final minutes, as Durden's takedown threats became increasingly labored. As the fight neared the finish, Gutierrez was dominating the significant striking battle and landed multiple power shots. While Gutierrez finished strong, it wasn't quite enough to overcome his slow start.
