Late surge is not enough
BantamweightUFC
October 4, 2025
Gutierrez lost to Farid Basharat via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 320 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a classic case of too little, too late for Gutierrez. He gave up a takedown and nearly three minutes of control time to drop Round 1 and was outclassed on the feet in Round 2. He made legitimate improvements in the final frame, winning it on all three scorecards, but the damage was already done. Gutierrez had an eight-fight unbeaten streak (7-0-1) early in his UFC run, but he's sporting a .500 record in his past six fights dating back to April 2023.

Taking on Basharat
BantamweightUFC
July 31, 2025
Gutierrez will face Farid Basharat in a featherweight bout at UFC 320 on October 4, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Gutierrez has won two straight since falling to Yadong Song in 2023, a loss that was -- and remains -- only his third defeat in the UFC (he currently boasts a 10-3-1 record in the promotion). Now, he'll face a much less experienced UFC combatant in Basharat, but he's not to be taken lightly, as he's off to a 4-0 start in the promotion.
Barely gets past John Castaneda
BantamweightUFC
April 26, 2025
Gutierrez defeated John Castaneda via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
These two were scheduled to fight last month, at which point Castaneda withdrew due to injury. They finally got it on here, and Gutierrez managed to get the job done. Barely. The Texan landed the biggest blow of the bout with a Round 1 knockdown, but was otherwise unimpressive. He likely would have been in big trouble if Castaneda had decided to go to his wrestling prior to Round 3. Chris has turned into a point fighter in recent years, with his last knockout win over someone other than late-career Frankie Edgar coming back in March 2022. Already 34 years old, expect Gutierrez to hover around the .500 mark moving forward.
Fight set in KC
BantamweightUFC
April 2, 2025
Gutierrez will face John Castaneda at UFC Kansas City on April 26, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
The American bantamweight will finally have his chance to take on Castenada in the octagon after their previous fight being canceled do to Castenada getting ill. Gutierrez last saw some action back in August when he beat Quang Le via unanimous decision, so he should be itching to get in the octagon once again.
Castenada bout off
BantamweightUFC
March 8, 2025
Gutierrez will no longer face John Castaneda in a bantamweight bout at UFC 313, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This is an unfortunate circumstance for Gutierrez, as there's little he can do about his opponent falling ill just hours before the fight. This is the second fight pulled from the UFC 313 card due to a last-minute illness, joining Curtis Blaydes versus Rizvan Kuniev.
Fighting Castaneda in March
BantamweightUFC
March 2, 2025
Gutierrez will face John Castaneda at UFC 313 in Las Vegas on March 8, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Gutierrez was previously scheduled to face Jean Matsumoto at UFC 313 but will instead take on Castaneda. Gutierrez will head into the fight coming off a decision victory over Quang Le in August. The 33-year-old American will likely be looking to use his stopping power against the fellow Texan as Gutierrez boasts a perfect 9-0 professional record in KO/TKO finishes.
