Snaps brief losing streak
Garbrandt defeated Trevin Jones via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 285 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The fact that Garbrandt emerged victorious is all that really matters here, but this was by no means a dominant performance. He was better than Jones on the feet the first two rounds, but not exceptionally so. Cody did land two impressive takedowns and appeared to be on the way to a clear decision win, at which point Garbrandt got popped with a couple big shots from Jones in Round 3, which he didn't handle well. Cody's durability has been a major issue in the past, and the fact Jones -- a fighter with little power -- damaged him on the few shots he landed isn't a positive sign. Those expecting the 31-year-old Ohio native to return to the championship-level we have seen from him in the past appeared destined to come away disappointed.

ANALYSIS
Garbrandt ended up not making any appearances in the Octagon in 2022 after he had scheduled bouts with Rani Yahya cancelled in July and October due to both fighters picking up injuries while training. Now healthy heading into 2023, the former bantamweight champion will look to get back on track after losing in five of his last six bouts. Garbrandt's most recent fight came at the flyweight level back in December 2021, when he lost to Kai Kara-France via first-round TKO.
