Suffers third consecutive KO loss
Reyes lost to Ryan Spann via KO (punch) at 1:20 of Round 1 at UFC 281 on Saturday in New York.
ANALYSIS
Counterpunching was a hallmark of Reyes' boxing at his best, but he just can't seem to handle advancing fighters anymore, as his opponents just overwhelm him with power and volume until he falls flat. It's difficult to tell where the problem lies exactly, as he had his moments of success against Jiri Prochazka, but it seems clear that the former title challenger needs a new game plan if he has designs on being champion. Reyes falls to 12-4-0 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.

Facing heavy opponent
Reyes will receive 20 percent of Ryan Spann's purse for Saturday's fight at UFC 281 after Spann missed weight Friday, Jose Youngs of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reyes will take home some additional earnings Saturday after Spann weighed in 0.6 pounds over the light heavyweight limit. Reyes last fought in May of 2021 when he was defeated by Jiri Prochazka via knockout, so he'll look to get back in the win column in his return from the extended absence. Reyes boasts a 12-3 professional record.

Returning after more than a year
Reyes (knee) will take on Ryan Spann at UFC 281 on Nov. 12, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reyes will be returning to the Octagon for the first time since May of 2021 when he fell by knockout to Jiri Prochazka. Reyes underwent surgery a couple months after that on his left meniscus and has been working to get back since. Spann is coming off a stoppage win over Ion Cutelaba in May.

Undergoes surgery
Reyes underwent surgery on his left meniscus Thursday, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Reyes was hit with a six-month medical suspension due to multiple facial injuries following his May 1 bout, but it appears his knee is also an issue that will presumably cost him some time. It's unclear exactly where his timetable for a return to the Octagon lands at this juncture, but his earliest date would be late October unless he gains medical clearance before then.
