U.S. Open Tennis Picks: Sabalenka vs. Anisimova
Aryna Sabalenka (-200) vs. Amanda Anisimova (+160)
Sabalenka probably isn't happy to see another American in a Grand Slam final in 2025, and especially not Anisimova. The world No. 1 hasn't played her best tennis in the biggest matches this year, losing to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final and Coco Gauff in the French Open final before falling to Anisimova in the semifinals of Wimbledon. That 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 Wimbledon victory gave Anisimova a 6-3 career head-to-head edge over Sabalenka, which includes a 2-1 advantage for the American on hard courts. Anisimova was overwhelmed by nerves in the Wimbledon final, failing to win a game against Iga Swiatek, but that's the only loss for Anisimova in her last 13 Grand Slam matches. She avenged the loss to Swiatek with a 6-4, 6-3 quarterfinal triumph here, then outlasted four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 6-3 in a semifinal classic that demonstrated Anisimova's improved resolve and focus in big matches.
Sabalenka got a semifinal test from Jessica Pegula in the Belarusian's 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory, but that was the first top-30 seed Sabalenka had to face on an easy path to the final that was made even easier by a quarterfinal walkover over Marketa Vondrousova (knee). Anisimova offers a different challenge from her steady compatriot Pegula, as the No. 8 seed can match Sabalenka's power from the baseline and take the match into her own hands, whereas Pegula's path to victory was much more reliant on errors from her bigger-hitting opponent. Sabalenka knows what it takes to get over the hump in a major final considering she has three hard-court Grand Slam titles under her belt, including last year's U.S. Open. That said, there has to be some doubt creeping in given her poor results in previous 2025 major finals, while Anisimova seems to have unlocked a new level to her mental game and will have the crowd trying to lift her up if the going gets tough.
U.S. Open Women's Final Prediction: Anisimova def. Sabalenka 3-6, 7-5, 6-3
