DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Taijuan Walker, ARI at DET ($8,200): Walker has been a different pitcher away from Chase Field, owning a 2.39 ERA opposed to 4.56 when at home. It's come largely as he pitches to contact, with his strikeout rate dipping from 25.0 percent to 16.5 percent, which will cap his upside Wednesday. The Tigers will counter with an offense that boasts a .324 wOBA and .168 ISO against righties, and will put Jordan Zimmerman and his 5.72 ERA on the bump to counter Walker, likely increasing his win chances.

Mike Leake, STL vs. MIL ($6,800): The Brewers have seen their bats go south as the season has progressed, averaging 3.9 runs in 13 games this month while being held to two or fewer runs in seven of those games. They've struck out at a 28.1 percent clip in June, which should help Leake chalk up a few additional points despite his current 16.3 fan rate, and with the two teams playing a doubleheader Tuesday, it's possible a few regulars are rested, which can ease owners worries given Leake's current form (5.40 ERA in 11.2 June frames.)

Catcher

Robinson Chirinos, TEX at HOU ($3,500): I'm all in on a Rangers' stack for this slate, but their bats aren't cheap, making that difficult. This play obviously assumes Chirnos gets the start over Jonathan Lucroy ($3,500), which isn't necessarily a safe assumption, but if in the lineup, Chirnos brings a .340 wOBA and .275 ISO to the table against Francis Martes, who had a 5.29 ERA at Triple-A before allowing four runs in 3.2 innings in his big-league debut.

First Base

Mitch Moreland, BOS at PHI ($4,500): After a sterling April, Phillies starter Jeremy Hellickson has been getting tagged, allowing 49 hits, 12 of which left the yard, and 30 runs over his last 42.0 innings. All nine of Moreland's long balls have come off right-handers, who he has a .377 wOBA and 133 wRC+ against.

Second Base

Wilmer Flores, NYM vs. CHC ($3,300): Flores has been quite useful against left-handed pitching, sporting a .408 wOBA, 157 wRC+ and .979 OPS. He'll face Mike Montgomery who only lasted 4.0 innings in his first start of the season, allowing two runs after giving up only nine runs across 36.2 relief innings.

Third Base

Kris Bryant, CHC at NYM ($4,500): Bryant leads the Cubs with a .369 wOBA and 127 wRC+ and trails only Ian Happ with a .867 OPS against righties, numbers that have improved to .417, 159, and .998 respectively in June. Mets starter Matt Harvey has a 6.11 ERA at home, where he's allowed a long ball once every 4.7 frames.

Shortstop

Jordy Mercer, PIT vs. COL ($3,500): Mercer continues to produce and brings a .361 wOBA and 125 wRC+ into a matchup with German Marquez. After an impressive May, Marquez has allowed seven runs in his last eight innings, with both starts coming away from the hitter-friendly Coors Field. He's allowed a .330 wOBA to righties, giving Mercer a decent outlook Wednesday.

Outfield

Corey Dickerson, TAM at TOR ($4,500): Dickerson has found great success regardless of pitcher handedness, but he's really feasted on the road. He owns a .449 wOBA, 190 wRC+ and .295 ISO against lefties outside of Tampa, and has an inviting matchup against Francisco Liriano, who has a 5.87 ERA and 1.75 WHIP.

Shin-Soo Choo, TEX at HOU ($4,400): Choo is a much safer bet to be in the lineup than the previously mentioned Chirinos, and his .362 wOBA and 123 wRC+ against righties should play well against Martes.

Gregor Blanco, ARI at DET ($3,600): Blanco's .406 wOBA and 147 wRC+ against righties rank third among D-Backs regulars, and his position atop the lineup gives him a chance to benefit fromm sluggers Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt. Tigers starter Jordan Zimmerman has been generous to all batters, allowing a .404 wOBA and .966 OPS to lefties.
