FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

Jose Quintana, $8,400 - Quintana has been pitching like an elite pitcher over the last three months yet his price is still in the mid-tier level. He has scored over 11 fantasy points in five of his last six games and been a different pitcher since the month of April. Quintana finished that month with a 6.55 ERA (four starts) but has followed that up with monthly ERAs of 3.05, 3.27 and 2.57 in July (six starts). He has a good chance to pick up an extra four points for the win against the Rays which would be his third straight.

Catcher

Jesus Montero, $2,300 - With a matchup against Eddie Butler and the game being played in Coors Field a lot of owners are going to be all over the Mariners tonight. Montero is one player who might get lost in the shuffle as he isn't going to be playing catcher yet still qualifies there. He had been raking at Triple-A before his call-up and hit a home run Saturday before delivering a pinch-hit double Sunday. Just make sure he's in the lineup before selecting him for your team.

First Base

Freddie Freeman, $3,500 - This isn't exactly a cheap price but on a night when there isn't a full slate of games and there are 12 other players at the position priced the same or more, it's not a terrible value. Freeman has looked just fine since returning from his DL stint and has homered in two of his last six games. He heads home tonight to face off against Matt Cain, a pitcher who has been inconsistent and brings a 4.50 ERA into the game.

Second Base

Aaron Hill, $2,200 - Hill has put together a modest three game hit streak and has two doubles over that time span. He's the minimum price which you'll likely need in a few spots tonight in order to pay up for the Coors game or some other big bats. Hill comes into the contest against Doug Fister with some positive past history, going 3-for-10 against him with two home runs.

Third Base

Lonnie Chisenhall, $2,600 - While the Indians offense struggled all weekend, the lone bright spot with Chisenhall. Over his last three games he's gone 5-for-11 with two walks, three runs, a home run and a stolen base. He was even promoted to the leadoff spot Sunday and scored the only run for Cleveland. Tonight Chisenhall gets Garrett Richards who has been inconsistent over the last month. Richards has given up four home runs over his last four starts and given up four earned runs in two of those four contests.

Shortstop

Ian Desmond, $2,900 - Desmond has been a huge disappointment for both DFS and season-long owners this season considering he's coming off a 24/24 campaign. This season his batting average sits at a lowly .216 while he's only hit 11 home runs and swiped six bags. However, he recently talked to Cal Ripken which he claims helped and his production since July 20 indicated he may be turning the corner. Since then he's gone 14-for-46 (.306) with four home runs. Tonight he gets a good home matchup against Zachary Godley who has pitched well over his head over his first two big league starts.

Outfield

Preston Tucker, $3,100 - Tucker has been a beast this season against right-handed pitching, hitting 10 home runs in 162 at-bats good for a .924 OPS. Colby Lewis sports a home ERA of 4.76 and has gotten hit much worse by lefties than righties this season and for his career. This game has a healthy over/under of nine runs with the Astros favored and Tucker hit cleanup Saturday when the team faced a right-handed pitcher.

Seth Smith, $3,000 - There's going to be plenty of opportunity outside of Jesus Montero in Coors tonight and the next best value is probably Smith. He's been hitting in the five hole behind Robinson Cano and the best players to target against Eddie Butler is left-handed hitters. Cano ($4,300) and Nelson Cruz ($5,400) are much more expensive options although teammate Mark Trumbo ($2,300) is another Mariner option. Still, Smith is more than reasonable at this price and has the revenge factor (if you believe in that) working for him as well.

Justin Upton, $2,900 - This price seems too low for a player who has 18 home runs and 17 stolen bases on his resume this season. He'll be out of Petco Park and playing at Miller Field and has a decent matchup against Wily Peralta. There isn't a lot of history between the two but Peralta is making only his second start since coming off the DL. Peralta only threw six innings (84 pitches) in his first outing and is unlikely to go far into the game, potentially matching Upton up against secondary pitching. Upton also has three home runs and eight RBI over the last week.
