Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

There aren't any aces in Monday's games, so there should be plenty of cheaper bats to go after. That being the case, I'm still going with two higher-priced pitchers that are facing some of the worst lineups in MLB. Throw in a couple big bats and this lineup should double up…

PITCHER

Jake Arrieta, PHI at MIA ($50): There may be some people fading Arrieta, but I won't be one of them. He's been inconsistent, yet every pitcher on this slate has been and that's why none of them are more expensive than Arrieta. He's gone at least six innings in his last three starts and while he only had 13.5 fantasy points against the Marlins a few weeks ago, his upside is there. Miami has the worst numbers against righties in the league with a 25.5 K% and .264 wOBA.

Jeff Samardzija, SF vs. SD ($41): Samardzija was blasted for six runs and eight hits last start, but he's a favorite in a game that has an over/under of 7.5 runs. That's mostly because the Padres strike out a ton with a 28.3 K% and .290 wOBA against righties. Samardzija's two starts came against the Nationals and Angels, and both have better overall squads than the Padres. Tanner Roark ($42) is also in this spot in terms of odds and is worth a look.

CATCHER

Matt Wieters, WAS vs. PIT ($11):Jameson Taillon has fallen off the rails in his last two starts allowing 14 hits and 12 runs in 5.1 innings. It's unlikely this outing will be as bad, but it's worth grabbing a cheap bat against him if it does. Wieters fits that description even if his numbers don't stand out. He has two homers against righty arms this season and more importantly doesn't strike out as much against them with a career 16.9 K rate.

Joey Votto, CIN vs. MIL ($19): This game is tied for the highest over/under at 9.5 runs, which means I'll be using multiple bats from it. Votto is the first choice in a nice matchup against Jhoulys Chacin, who is coming off two favorable outings against the Marlins and Royals. The Reds aren't lighting up the scoreboard, but they are scoring more than those two teams. Votto is also much better against righties and has an early 7.1 K% against them in the first month. Throw in last year's .257 ISO and .433 wOBA and he's a great play against Chacin and his 5.55 xFIP from 2017.

SECOND BASE

Alen Hanson, SF vs. SD ($9): This is purely a value play against Eric Lauer, who was rocked for six hits and six runs in his major-league debut last week. Sure, that came at Coors Field, but he also had four walks in only three innings. As for Hanson, he was recently brought up because Joe Panik is on the DL. Hanson doesn't have many good numbers outside of his price and a homer in his first start on Saturday.

THIRD BASE

Yangervis Solarte, TOR at MIN ($16): Solarte has provided more power this season with six homers, but he was still plenty consistent against righties in 2017 with a minimal 12.4 K% and .335 wOBA. That should work well against Lance Lynn, who has been lit up for 14 hits and 11 runs in the last two games to go with a negative 6.1 K-BB% (15.2 K%, 21.2 BB%) against 33 lefty bats faced.

SHORTSTOP

Adeiny Hechavarria, TB at DET ($11): I usually try to grab at least one bat against Jordan Zimmermann and Hechavarria gets the call this time mainly because of price. His overall numbers leave a lot to be desired against righties, but his two homers came against them and he has a hit in 10 of his last 11 games. Zimmermann isn't good against either side of the plate with 28 hits and 17 runs allowed in four starts (0.2 innings in a fifth start because of injury). A year ago, Zimmermann was blasted by righties with a .368 wOBA and 5.59 xFIP.

OUTFIELD

Curtis Granderson, TOR at MIN ($16): Here's another lefty to use against Lynn, who had a miserable 5.93 xFIP and 1.80 HR/9 against them last season. Granderson comes at a decent rate mainly because he's useless against southpaws. He strikes out more against righties, but also has much more power as seen in last season's .255 ISO and .343 wOBA.

Scott Schebler, CIN vs. MIL ($13): This is my second lefty against Chacin since he hasn't improved from last season's .338 wOBA allowed. Schebler hasn't lost a step even after missing the first couple weeks of the season due to an elbow injury. Going off last year's numbers, he rocked righties for a .265 ISO and .331 wOBA.

Domingo Santana, MIL at CIN ($7): This is my only play against Brandon Finnegan, but that doesn't mean every Milwaukee righty can't be used against him. Finnegan hasn't looked good in his first three starts with 18 hits and 11 runs allowed following last year's .334 wOBA and 4.80 xFIP against righties. Santana hasn't done much against southpaws this year, but that should turnaround at some point after his .218 ISO and .377 wOBA against them in 2017.
