We're back to a smaller slate of games Sunday as we near the end of Week 2 of preseason. We'll continue to focus on leveraging the usage we saw last weekend as well as targeting roster-bubble players who could get more opportunity for Sunday's NFL DFS picks.
Roster Strategy
Both DraftKings and FanDuel DFS lineups consist of one QB, two RBs, three WRs, one TE, one flex (RB/WR/TE) and one DST unit. DraftKings uses PPR scoring with bonuses for 100-yard receiving or rushing performances and 300-yard passing games, while FanDuel has 0.5 PPR scoring. All players have the same salary cap hit in preseason DFS contests, so this format is all about finding the highest-scoring fantasy players rather than balancing production against cost.
Quarterback
Tyler Shough vs. JAX
Shough and Spencer Rattler are reversing roles this weekend, with the former seemingly picking up some momentum toward gaining the starting job. Rattler led the offense for five series last weekend when he was the starter, so expect about the same for Shough. That should also be enough for him to put up some fantasy points.
Tyson Bagent vs. BUF
Shough is something of an upside play, but there's also plenty to be said for a safe floor during preseason. Bagent is familiar with the Bears' offense and is in a comfortable backup role. Case Keenum is banged up, so Bagent and Austin Reed should handle the majority of work even with the news that Caleb Williams will see the field.
Running Back
Kendre Miller vs. JAX
This looks to be the week that several Saints' skill-position players can win jobs. Miller didn't impress in the opening week of preseason, but he led the Saints in carries. Cam Akers and Clyde Edwards-Helaire are competition, but Miller has every opportunity to take the job so we should project for him to receive plenty of carries.
Bhayshul Tuten at NO
Jacksonville's running back situation remains one of the most important to watch for season-long fantasy football, and we may see a different flow to the workload this week than last.Tuten is third in line for carries come the regular season but could get the heaviest workload Sunday.
Kyle Monangai vs. BUF
Monangai may have a legitimate chance to leapfrog Roschon Johnson, with the latter sidelined by a foot injury the last nine days or so. Travis Homer (calf) is also out, so this could be a game where Monangai is tested with handling a significant workload.
Wide Receiver
Joshua Cephus at NO
Cephus is on the roster bubble in Jacksonville, so he should see plenty of snaps and targets in the offense. The wide receivers were on the field for a relatively flat amount against the Steelers in the opening week of preseason, but we're unlikely to see Travis Hunter (upper body) and should see less of Parker Washington given his certain roster status. Trenton Irwin and Dorian Singer are also in a similar position to Cephus and names to consider.
Tyler Scott vs. BUF
The Bears ran their personnel in the opposite way of the Jaguars, relying heavily on depth players to soak up playing time in Week 1. Scott was on the field for 47 percent of offensive snaps. That didn't translate to much production, but that should change if his usage remains the same.
Mason Tipton/Kevin Austin vs. JAX
The Saints' usage was pretty clear last week in the preseason and lays out a nice road map of players to target — assuming that usage remains the same. Tipton and Austin played 71 and 68 percent of snaps, respectively, last week. They came away with very different stat lines, but both were productive.
Tight End
Hunter Long at NO
Long is getting every chance to win the backup tight end job in Jacksonville after a strong start to camp. He didn't post any stats Week 1 of preseason, but his usage suggests that should change Sunday.
Treyton Welch vs JAX
Welch is a longshot to make the Saints' roster but did show well last weekend against the Chargers. He was a solid pass catcher in college before sitting on New Orleans' practice squad all last season. Welch may be in for the same fate in 2025, but he's capable of making an impact in preseason.
Defense/Special Teams
Chicago Bears vs. BUF
There isn't one particular quarterback situation that stands out as being weakest, but we can be pretty certain we won't see Josh Allen. The rest of the teams are all set to play their starters to varying degrees, which could lead to early points on the board.
