Andalucia Valderrama Masters 2018

Location: Sotogrande, Spain
Course: Real Club Valderrama
Yardage: 7,001
Par: 71

Tournament Preview

The European Tour is in Spain this week for the Andalucia Valderrama Masters. It will be contested again at Real Club Valderrama. This is the last chance for players to secure their European Tour card for next season. Real Club Valderrama is a tough course consisting of tight tree-lined fairways and small, undulating greens. Precision off the tee will be a must this week as well as approach shots. Recent form and course history will once again be considered heavily.

Past Champions

2017 - Sergio Garcia
2011 - Sergio Garcia
2010 - Graeme McDowell

DraftKings Picks

Sergio Garcia - $11,600 (4/1)

The favorite appears very hard to fade this week. Garcia won this tournament the last two times it was contested and has shown a return to form recently. He obviously possesses the skill set to succeed at Valderrama, being the defending champion. Garcia is a must play this week, even at $11,600.

Joost Luiten - $9,300 (33/1)

Luiten is returning to action for the first time since an injury in May. A little rust could be a concern, but he has thrived on this course in the past. As long as he is healthy, this seems like the ideal spot to return. He was solo 2nd at Real Club Valderrama last year. Luiten is accurate off the tee and with his irons. He is ranked 7th in SG: approach and 35th in driving accuracy.

Wade Ormsby - $8,300 (50/1)

It was about this time last year when Ormsby really started to heat up. He finished solo fifth at Real Club Valderrama and then went on to win at UBS Hong Kong Open. Ormsby was T29 last week at Sky Sports British Masters, perhaps the pattern will continue. He is ranked 33rd in driving accuracy and 57th in SG: approach. Look for Ormsby to finish strong again this week.

Ashley Chesters - $7,900 (66/1)

Chesters finished T12 at Andalucia Valderrama Masters last year. He has made six of his last eight cuts and at $7,900 is an appealing option. He is ranked 12th on tour in driving accuracy and 32nd in greens in regulation. I believe the Englishman will contend again this year on a course where he has had success.
