DraftKings NHL: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Robin Lehner, NYI vs. FLA ($7,300): Lehner isn't the runaway choice but he seems to be in a good position to snag a win. Marc-Andre Fleury ($8,400) is the most obvious choice, but he comes at a premium to his peers and the Canucks could get Elias Pettersson back in the lineup. The Panthers are coming off a 5-2 loss even after peppering the Rangers with 38 shots last night, so you wonder how much is left in the tank.

CENTER

Nathan MacKinnon, COL vs. TB ($7,800): MacKinnon's line has accounted for over half of the team's scoring output, yet opposing defenses still can't find ways to shut them down. MacKinnon will see a heavy dose of Victor Hedman but on home ice Jared Bednar can hide him, though MacKinnon doesn't really need any help with seven goals and 16 points in 10 career games against the Lightning. He might be worth stacking with Mikko Rantanen ($6,800) or Gabriel Landeskog ($6,600).

Mathew Barzal, NYI vs. FLA ($5,000): Barzal has just one goal and a minus-7 rating in seven games, but quietly he's still on pace for a second straight 80-point season. The Panthers are a wounded animal after tough loss to the Rangers last night, and will now turn to James Reimer and his .870 save percentage. A cursory look at the Panthers defense shows how thin they really are, which may help the Islanders snap their offensive slump.

WING

Steven Stamkos, TB at COL ($5,900): It's been a very rough start to the season for Stamkos, but after being moved to the wing and off Nikita Kucherov's line, he's shooting the puck more. Playing the wing allows him to focus on offense a little bit more, and with the Lightning winning games they can afford to let Stamkos find his groove. Semyon Varlamov is a tough challenge but Stamkos can provide some very good value at this price.

Mike Hoffman, FLA at NYI ($4,800): He's on a five-game point streak after scoring against the Rangers last night, and after a slow start he's starting to find his groove. Hoffman can be a streaky player, so keep riding the gravy train, especially at this price. The Panthers may have only one win, but two of their losses came in a shootout and their underlying numbers suggest they're much better than their record would indicate.

Brendan Leipsic, VAN at VGK ($2,500): With no Brock Boeser or Elias Pettersson, Leipsic draws back into the lineup for the first time since Oct. 9. Good news: Leipsic practiced on the top line and on the top power play unit with Bo Horvat on Tuesday. Bad news: Leipsic plays for the Canucks and his opposite winger is Loui Eriksson. Leipsic is a gamble, but there's upside. Jake Virtanen ($3,400) may not be so bad, either.

DEFENSE

Victor Hedman, TB at COL ($5,900): Guess which team's taken the most minor penalties in the league, spends nearly 20 percent of the game on the penalty kill and has been shorthanded a league-high 42 times? Hedman, Stamkos and Kucherov have combined for just three power-play assists, but surely the cold streak has to end at some point, and the Avs will give them plenty of chances to do it.

Dustin Byfuglien, WPG vs. TOR ($4,800): He's the rare defenseman who can fill every single fantasy category, so he's worth picking on a nightly basis. He's scored 20 points in 19 games against the Leafs in his career and could continue his dominance; even though Frederik Andersen is 6-0-1 against the Jets, he did it with a .899 save percentage.
