Simon will fight Raphael Assuncao at a UFC event scheduled for Dec. 18, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Simon is entering this fight riding a three-fight win streak while his opponent is on the opposite end after losing his last three bouts. Simon should enter as the favorite, as Assuncao also recently underwent surgery for a torn distal tendon is his left bicep but will be ready to go for the fight.

Taking on Valiev in September
July 27, 2021
Simon will take on Timur Valiev in a bantamweight bout at UFC 266 September 25, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Simon is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Brian Kelleher back in February. That came after a submission win over Gaetano Pirrello just a few weeks prior. He has another chance to move up in the bantamweight ranks in September.
Blows past Brian Kelleher
February 13, 2021
Simon defeated Brian Kelleher via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 258 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It's Simon's second victory in a three-week span. After submitting Gaetano Pirrello on Fight Island on January 20, Simon returned to the states and put a beating on an overmatched Kelleher. Simon landed 6-of-9 takedowns attempts in addition to posting a 72-25 edge in total strikes landed. If that wasn't enough, he racked up 8:14 worth of control time in the 15-minute bout. Kelleher was credit with 12 seconds worth in that category. Simon has been flawless during his UFC run outside of back-to-back losses to Rob Font and Urijah Faber back in 2019. Clearly one of the more underrated fighters on the entire roster, Simon has won three in a row. Don't sleep on him as 2021 progresses.
Matched with Brian Kelleher again
January 28, 2021
Simon will take on Brian Kelleher in a featherweight fight at UFC 258 on Feb. 13, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA.nl reports.
The pair were scheduled to meet in both September and January, but a positive COVID-19 test from each fighter scrapped those plans. Simon has rebounded from a pair of losses by winning two fights in a row. He beat Ray Borg by split decision in May before submitting Gaetano Pirrello in the second round in January. In Kelleher, he'll face an opponent who's won three of his last four fights, most recently needing just 39 seconds to submit Ray Rodriguez in September.
Puts on wrestling clinic
January 20, 2021
Simon defeated Gaetano Pirrello via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 4:00 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Island 8 on Wednesday.
Simon spent much of the early time looking for a takedown and was eventually able to lift Pirrello off his feet for the slam, recording his second official takedown of the round. Another big cross set up a third takedown, and Simon landed some heavy ground-and-pound as the round came to a close. Despite eating a knee early, Simon went right back to the takedown in Round 2. Wash, rinse and repeat. In the final minutes, Simon ended up in mount after yet another takedown and glided to the arm-triangle choke. He was ultimately credited with seven takedowns in nine minutes of fight time, and when mixed with the finish, adds up to a quality fantasy score.
Gets new opponent
January 7, 2021
Simon will now take on Gaetano Pirrello in a bantamweight matchup at UFC Fight Island 7 on Jan. 20, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
Simon was initially slated to take on Brian Kelleher in January before Kelleher tested positive for COVID-19. However, he'll get a new opponent with just under two weeks remaining prior to the matchup. Simon most recently defeated Ray Borg via split decision at UFC Jacksonville in May of 2020. Pirrello will be making his UFC debut against Simon, and he most recently defeated Enzo Maria Iezzi via KO (liver shot) at European Beatdown 7 in October of 2019. Pirrello has an edge in height.
