FanDuel MLB: Monday Targets

FanDuel MLB: Monday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Monday is a very light day for MLB. To even get to five games I had to include the 6:10 p.m. ET start. That means fewer options for your DFS squad. Don't skip Monday just because of it, however. I still have some recommendations for you.

PITCHING

Luis Castillo, CIN at CLE ($9,200): Castillo got off to a truly brutal start to the season, but he's turned it around nicely. Since the start of June he has an 1.91 ERA. That bad start was truly surprising, and these numbers feel more in line with what I expected from the 28-year-old. Cleveland has a sub-.300 OBP as a team, so that bodes well for Castillo's continued dominance.

Joe Musgrove, SD vs. MIA ($9,000): San Diego has been kind to Musgrove in his first season in the city. He has a 2.87 ERA, lowest in his career. Naturally, he's been better at Petco Park, as he has a home ERA of 2.52. Musgrove is at home Monday, and he'll be facing the Marlins, who rank 27th in runs scored and have dealt away Starling Marte on top of that.

TOP TARGETS

Giancarlo Stanton, NYY at KC ($3,900): Stanton's power is down this year, which means he has a .456 slugging percentage and has 17 home runs in 91 games. Still, he's slugged .540 in his career. He has a ton of power potential, obviously. As a rookie in 2020, Brady Singer had a 4.06 ERA. This year, his ERA has risen to 5.13.

VALUE BATS

Andrew Vaughn, CWS at MIN ($2,600): Vaughn entered 2021 as one of the most-promising prospects in MLB, particularly when it comes to his bat. So far he's slashed .264/.331/.460, which is not bad for a rookie. However, so far the righty has absolutely crushed lefties to the tune of a 1.048 OPS. Charlie Barnes is expected to start for the Twins on Monday, and he's a lefty. Like Vaughn, Barnes is a rookie, but he's only made two MLB starts so far. In Triple-A, though, he had a 4.24 ERA.

STACK TO CONSIDER

Reds vs. Logan Allen: Jonathan India ($3,800), Nick Castellanos ($3,600), Kyle Farmer ($3,000)

Allen is expected to return from Triple-A for at least a spot start for Cleveland. Given that he has a 9.13 ERA, it doesn't bode well for Cleveland, but it does bode well for the Reds. While Allen may not stick in the game long, I still decided to go with three righties to face the lefty starter. India has been an under-the-radar rookie, hitting .283 with 13 homers and seven stolen bases. Also, he has a .963 OPS versus southpaws. Castellanos was having a great year prior to an injury, but now he's back and he still has a .323/.378/.575 slash line. Farmer has been surprisingly hot recently. He has a 1.114 OPS over the last 21 days.
