Yahoo DFS Baseball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Johnny Cueto, SF vs. KC, ($45): Cueto may not be having the sort of year we'd expect from a perennial Cy Young Award contender, but the 31-year-old still carries a 12 percent swinging strike rate and has allowed just one home run in 33 innings at home. The Royals have notched the second lowest wOBA in the league against right-handed pitchers to go along with a six percent walk rate.

Michael Pineda, NYY at LAA, ($44): The Angels will enter the contest as a bottom five offense against right-handed pitching according to wOBA, while also holding the second highest groundball rate in the league. Pineda should be able to keep the Halos off-balance with his 13 percent swinging strike rate and 52 percent groundball rate.

Catcher

Buster Posey, SF vs. KC, ($18): Opposition starter Jason Hammel has performed better of late, but still throws a fastball that registers a -7.0 RAA. Posey has notched a 5.6 RAA against the pitch, and currently boasts a .393 wOBA against same-handed pitchers.

First Base

Joey Votto, CIN at SD ($26): Votto's 17.0 RAA against the fastball ranks as one of the highest marks in the league, which could spell trouble for Jhoulys Chacin, whose heater has yielded a -8.0 RAA over 70.2 innings. While he has shown more power against lefties, Votto certainly hasn't been a slouch against righties, as evidenced by his .251 ISO over 175 at-bats.

Second Base

Jose Pirela, SD vs. CIN ($14): Pirela's price will likely skyrocket if he continues on his current pace, but he needs to be considered against all mediocre pitching for the time being. The former Yankee farmhand is hitting .484 in his first 31 at-bats this season, having secured a .323 ISO over that span. Amir Garrett was fortunate to avoid major injury after taking a line drive off his hand in his last start, but doesn't appear to know how to return to the dominant form we saw earlier this season. He has surrendered a .571 slugging percentage and a 40 percent hard contact rate to righties over 40.1 innings.

Third Base

Kris Bryant, CHC at NYM ($19): Bryant has logged a .246 ISO against righty pitching in 183 at-bats this season, while registering a .370 wOBA over that span. Matt Harvey has allowed six homers in 37 innings to same-handed hitters, and sports a 46 percent groundball rate, which should allow Bryant to use his extreme flyball rate to get some lift on the baseball.

Shortstop

Carlos Correa, HOU vs. TEX ($22): Andrew Cashner has finessed his way to a 3.17 ERA this season, but may not be so fortunate against Correa, who has tallied a .242 ISO against righty hurlers. Cashner has struck out less than 13 percent of the right-handed hitters he has faced, which could mean big things for Correa and his 42 percent hard contact rate.

Outfield

Shin-Soo Choo, TEX at HOU ($19): Francis Martes is another in a long line of Astros prospects who are big on strikeouts, but can't seem to find the strike zone with any consistency. This contributed to a 5.29 ERA in 32.1 innings at Triple-A Fresno this season. Choo has notched a 15 percent walk rate against right-handed pitchers, while notching a .191 ISO in 157 at-bats.

Bryce Harper, WAS vs. ATL ($20): Julio Teheran has been knocked around by lefties in 2017, having allowed a .537 slugging percentage and a .390 wOBA over 37.2 innings. Harper has had tremendous success against the fastball (18.5 RAA), and has brutalized righties with a .361 ISO over 155 at-bats.

David Peralta, ARI at DET ($15): Peralta has turned things up a notch in June, having tallied a .222 ISO and a .421 wOBA in 36 at-bats. Meanwhile, Jordan Zimmermann's fastball remains one of the worst in the league according to RAA (-13.0). It is also worth noting that he has surrendered eight homers to left-handed hitters in just 29.2 innings.
