DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Wednesday's featured MLB evening slate contains 12 games and begins at 7:05 PM Eastern time. The players below benefit from a combination of platoon advantages, favorable matchups and advantageous locations, putting them in position to outproduce their respective prices. For those reasons, these are the night's top value plays.

PITCHER

Tyler Glasnow, PIT at MIL ($6,600): Glasnow has massive strikeout potential in his first major-league appearance since June 9. The 24-year-old right-hander has honed his craft at Triple-A Indianapolis in the mean time, posting a 1.93 ERA and 140:32 K:BB over 93.1 innings. Milwaukee ranks in the bottom in runs per game and more importantly tops the charts at 9.79 strikeouts per contest, so Glasnow should be able to carry his minor-league success over to this game.

Patrick Corbin, ARI vs. COL ($7,300): Corbin's price has plummeted after he was surprisingly shelled by the Padres last time out, but the lefty's sparkling 0.50 ERA and 0.79 WHIP over his previous five starts suggest he's capable of bouncing right back. This matchup is far less daunting than it looks, as Colorado ranks just 22nd with a .712 road OPS when separated from the hitter-friendly conditions of Coors Field. Corbin has also excelled at Chase Field all year, posting a 3.31 ERA in 89.2 home innings compared to a 5.13 mark in 79 frames elsewhere.

CATCHER

Alex Avila, CHC vs. NYM ($3,500): Avila is a strong low-cost option at home given his .383 wOBA against righties and Wrigley Field's sixth-ranked 1.10 park factor. Mets righty Matt Harvey has struggled in two starts since returning from a shoulder injury with nine earned runs allowed in seven innings, and has given up a .391 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season. Just make sure Avila's in the lineup, as fellow catcher Wilson Contreras recently came off the disabled list.

FIRST BASE

Rhys Hoskins, PHI vs. MIA ($4,700): Hoskins has found plenty of success in righty-on-righty matchups with a .433 wOBA and eight home runs in 84 at-bats. Those stats make him dangerous against Miami's Dan Straily, who has allowed a .340 wOBA to batters from the right side and only a .296 mark to left-handed hitters. Straily has also had problems with the long ball judging by his 1.45 HR/9 while Citizens Bank Park's 1.40 home run park factor leads the league.

SECOND BASE

Kolten Wong, STL vs. CIN ($3,800): Reds rookie Tyler Mahle has out-pitched his 5.57 xFIP with a 3.60 ERA through three starts, but Wong should help align the two by raising the latter number here. The first 24 left-handed batters to face Mahle have produced a .426 wOBA and Wong has managed a .354 wOBA against righties while mashing 29 of his 32 extra-base hits in that split. Wong has been especially strong at home, where his wOBA against righties is .421 in a 150 plate appearance sample.

THIRD BASE

Alex Bregman, HOU at LAA ($3,900): Bergman has been terrific against left-handed pitching, posting a .411 wOBA in 126 at-bats. That success should continue against Tyler Skaggs, who has a 5.61 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 33.2 innings in seven starts since returning from an oblique injury on Aug. 5. It also helps that Angel Stadium of Anaheim's park factor is .13 higher than that of Bregman's home stadium Minute Maid Park.

SHORTSTOP

Wilmer Difo, WAS vs. ATL ($3,400): The switch-hitting Difo has been tremendous from the right side with a .405 wOBA in 71 at-bats against left-handed pitching. That production should continue against rookie Braves southpaw Luiz Gohara, who will be making his second start after allowing six earned runs in 4.2 innings during his debut against the Rangers. Difo is eligible at both middle infield positions, further adding to his value as second base and shortstop are generally two of the least productive lineup spots.

OUTFIELD

Chris Taylor, LAD at SF ($3,500): Taylor's modest recent production has brought his price down to $3,500, creating a buy-low opportunity. The leadoff man's .385 wOBA against lefties puts him in position to find success against San Francisco starter Matt Moore, who comes in with an uninspiring 5.31 ERA and 1.49 WHIP through 29 appearances (28 starts). Taylor's also a threat on the base paths after he gets on with 15 steals in 19 attempts.

Matt Olson, OAK at NYM ($4,400): Olson has quietly been one of the hottest hitters in baseball of late with nine home runs since Aug. 27. The left-handed slugger has produced 14 dingers in 118 at-bats against right-handed pitching altogether and will be a threat to go deep once more against Boston's Doug Fister. Olson's price will likely experience a steep climb soon if he keeps mashing like this, so grab him at $4,400 while you still can.

George Springer, HOU at LAA ($4,800): Springer's another Houston batter that's punished left-handed pitching, and his .419 wOBA in that split is even more impressive than Bregman's mark. That number jumps to an incredible .501 in 79 road plate appearances when he's not hampered by Minute Maid Park's 0.83 park factor. Skaggs is far from one of the more dangerous southpaws to face Springer, so expect the outfielder to have a field day at the top of the Astros order.
