Los Angeles Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings: Lakers to cover -1.5 spread, -106 @ FanDuel
The Lakers have opened the season with a 1-1 record, but there are more positives than negatives from their two games. As overmatched as they looked against the Golden State Warriors on Opening Night, the Lakers were far more convincing in their win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday. With Luka Doncic playing at an extremely high level, the Lakers should be able to record a second consecutive win when visiting the Kings. Sacramento needed a game-winning shot from Domantas Sabonis to top the Utah Jazz on Friday and lost to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.
That's far from an encouraging start for Sacramento, as they faced two teams that should sit near the bottom of the Western Conference standings once it's all said and done this season. Plus, the Kings could be without Zach LaVine (illness), leaving them even more shorthanded in terms of reliable offensive options. The Lakers are without LeBron James, but with Doncic playing as well as he's done in the first two games, they shouldn't worry. The star guard will carry Los Angeles to a second consecutive win Sunday, and the Lakers should cover the minimal spread as well.
Toronto Raptors vs. Dallas Mavericks: Over 230.5 total points, -110 @ Caesars Sportsbook
The Mavericks have opened the season with a 0-2 record after losing to the San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. Dallas is going through the growing pains of having rookie Cooper Flagg at point guard, and they'll face another team with lots of young talent in the Raptors. Toronto has competed hard so far, opening the season with a 1-1 record thanks to a win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday and a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.
If there's one thing that has characterized the Raptors' games, that's the high-scoring nature of their contests. Their two games have finished with over 235 total points, and it wouldn't be surprising if one of their contests surpasses the 230-point mark once again. Dallas hasn't been known for being a high-scoring team so far this season, but the team should improve with each passing game as Flagg grows more comfortable running the offense. Their two games this season have ended with under 225 points, but since the Raptors have endured a fair share of struggles on defense, that might change here.
Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Clippers: Clippers to cover -7.5 spread, -110 @ BetRivers
The Trail Blazers have had several off-court issues of late, but they still found a way to get their first win of the season Friday after topping the Golden State Warriors by a 139-119 score. Is that a true reflection of what the Blazers can do under the tutelage of Tiago Splitter as interim head coach, or was that only an overreaction against a tired, age-advanced Golden State team in the second half of a back-to-back set? They won't have it as easy when playing the Clippers on the road this Sunday.
The Clippers have one of the deepest rotations in the NBA and are coming off a bounce-back performance following their 129-102 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Friday. Los Angeles opened their season with an underwhelming loss to the Utah Jazz, but their performance Friday should be a closer measure of how the Clippers are likely to play all season long. The Trail Blazers are an intense, hard-nosed team, but the Clippers should have enough talent to secure a comfortable home win. With James Harden and Kawhi Leonard leading the way, and after both combined for 57 of LA's 129 points in the blowout win over the Suns, the Clippers could win by a margin that's big enough to cover the reasonable -7.5 spread.
