College Basketball Waiver Wire: Pickups of the Week

This article is part of our College Basketball Waiver Wire series.

Power Conferences

Justyn Mutts, F, Virginia Tech

Mutts is on a heater, and needs to be streamed until he cools off. He had a monster 22 point, nine rebound, seven assist and two steal outing at Miami over the weekend, and has averaged 14.3 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 3.0 apg and 1.0 blocks across the Hokies last four outings.

Wendell Moore, G/F, Duke

Moore is a well-known fantasy tease, having flashed potential multiple times in this two years in Durham before falling out of the rotation in short order. Yet here we are almost one year to the day where Moore was featured in this column. He's now started five straight, averaging 11.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists, and has scored 33 in the Blue Devils last two. Until/unless he sees a decrease in minutes, Moore is worth a look in most formats.

Ryan Young, C, Northwestern

It's pretty slim pickings in Big 10 circles this week, but Young is worth consideration if you need a boost at the center position. He's scored in double-digits in three straight, playing 25.7 minutes nightly in that stretch and most recently moved into the starting lineup. The Wildcats' rotation seems to be in flux, but if Young can maintain this level of playing time, he'll produce moderately as a result.

Emmitt Matthews, F, West Virginia

Matthews moved back into the starting lineup over the weekend after a four-game stint as a reserve, and provided 10 points and five boards

Emmitt Matthews, F, West Virginia

Matthews moved back into the starting lineup over the weekend after a four-game stint as a reserve, and provided 10 points and five boards across 37 minutes against Kansas. He wasn't particularly productive, or consistent, as a long time starter earlier in the year, but it's hard to ignore the minutes he was afforded here. Assuming those stick, he's worth a look where previously released in Big 12-heavy formats.

Solomon Young, F, Iowa State

Young has returned from a two-game absence and recently reclaimed his starting role over the weekend. He's scored in double-digits in five straight, and has averaged five boards throughout the year, so he won't hurt you there. He's decent roster depth in Big 12 circles.

James Bouknight, G, Connecticut

Bouknight appears to be nearing his return from a wrist injury. Having missed six straight contests, it's reasonable to think impatient managers in bigger player pool leagues moved on. Averaging 20.3 ppg and 5.3 rpg before injury, he's a no-brainer addition if available.

Bo Hodges, G, Butler

Hodges is probably the priority add nationally this week, and shows the value of league settings to boot, as he's long gone if you operate with daily transactions, but weekly waiver leagues he's likely still available. He's given Butler an immediate lift on the glass, rebounding at an elite level from the backcourt, and averaged 11.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists 1.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals as a starter.

Ziaire Williams, F, Stanford

Williams was reportedly available Sunday, but didn't see any action. He's missed six straight games now due to COVID-related issues, but figures to ramp up his minutes in the coming weeks. He averaged 12.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals before being sidelined; useful numbers in most formats. The entire Cardinal roster is worth looking into in Pac-12-heavy formats, as Bryce Wills has returned from an extended absence, and Daejon Davis appears to be trending that way as well.

Devan Cambridge, G, Auburn

Cambridge saw a season-high 38 minutes as a starter over the weekend against Ole Miss, and responded with a season-high 16 points and seven boards. He's now scored in double-digits in three straight and four of the Tigers last five, and with Justin Powell showing no signs of returning from a concussion any time soon, Cambridge should continue to be a fixture in the Tigers up-tempo rotation. He's averaged five 3-point attempts over the last three outings, and that volume should lend itself to a stable floor moving forward.

Romello White, F/C, Mississippi

It's taken White awhile to adjust to life in the SEC, but we finally saw his potential over the weekend, when he posted a huge 30-point, 10-rebound, four-block outing against Auburn. He's flashed occasionally this season, usually against higher-paced teams, and with Missouri and South Carolina on the upcoming schedule, White seems set up for some short term success.

Tier 2

Keith Williams, G, Cincinnati

The Bearcats returned to action this week after a month-long pause to their season. That's a long time to wait without production, so many managers likely moved on from Williams. He averaged 15.0 ppg and 4.2 rpg before the team's break, and put up 35 points in two games last week upon return.

Graham Ike, F, Wyoming

Ike is only an option in deeper pools, or where freshmen are required. He's been reasonably consistent for the Cowboys, and moved into the starting lineup over the weekend, responding with 13 points and nine rebounds. With a small uptick in minutes, he's got a chance to flirt with double-doubles more nights than not.

Bryce Hamilton, G, UNLV

It's unlikely Hamilton is available as his absence hasn't been prolonged, and the 18.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 3.8 apg and 1.8 spg are well worth waiting on. But if short benches forced a manager to move on after Hamilton missed two straight and three of six, it's time to pounce.
