College Football DFS: Idaho Potato and Boca Raton Bowl Games

As bowl season gets going, the Idaho Potato and Boca Raton Bowl are on the Tuesday docket, with both DraftKings and FanDuel offering up contests. You'll need to flip over to the full-roster setting to find FanDuel's two-game slate.

SLATE OVERVIEW

Tulane vs. Nevada (+3) O/U: 56.5

UCF vs. BYU (-3.5) O/U: 69.5

With such a slim slate, quarterback selection will likely make or break your contest in both GPP and cash scenarios.  The complementary talent on offense is pretty apparent on all four teams, so choosing your signal-caller wisely will be the key to success.  Due to the Vegas prediction, we should emphasize the Boca Raton Bowl.  Both UCF and BYU can beat anyone in the country if things fall their way, and this matchup could be one of the more exciting bowl games we see in the next two weeks.

WEATHER

Although it should be frigid in Boise, the game kicks off early, so the temperature won't be an issue.  In Boca Raton, the weather forecast is sunny and mild.

INJURIES

RB Otis Anderson, UCF (undisclosed) QUESTIONABLE

Anderson hasn't played since the Cincinnati loss, and there's no word on his status for the bowl game. If Anderson can't go, Greg McCrae (DK $5,300, FD $8,600) will see even more touches than usual.  As is, he's already one of the premier rushers on the slate.

WR Melquan Stovall, Nevada (undisclosed) QUESTIONABLE

Stovall has shown up as one of Carson Strong's favorite targets over the past few weeks, so it would leave the Wolf Pack with one less target to choose. Nevada still has an impressive corps at wideout, and we'll touch on them in the WR section.

QUARTERBACK

Nine times out of 10, slotting a QB in your S-FLEX spot is usually the sensible way to go, and this slate is no exception. Conveniently, we have two tiers of passers, so it will be a matter of choosing one quarterback at each tier. MME players should get a dose of all four options, but I'm going to highlight the two signal-callers who will get more exposure. Of course, getting to top-tier guys would be ideal, but you'd need to make some severe sacrifices elsewhere.

Zach Wilson, BYU (DK $9,000, FD $11,200) vs. UCF

Wilson is in the Heisman conversation for a reason. With 3,273 yards passing and a ridiculous 28:3 TD/INT ratio, he's very deserving of the inflated price on both sites. Granted, Dillon Gabriel has similar numbers, but it's the team defenses that force me over to Wilson.  The Cougars' secondary has held opposing passers to an average of less than 200 yards, and UCF has been far more forgiving (286 PYPG).  Gabriel also has prolific numbers and an even better 30:4 TD/INT ratio, but I think Wilson will have a far easier time moving the ball through the air.

Carson Strong, Nevada (DK $7,100, FD $7,100) vs. Tulane

If you don't follow the Mountain West, you'll likely stay away from Strong. Still, the competition in this conference has been stiff, and the quality of play has also taken a considerable step forward despite the shorter season.  All of Nevada's losses were close, and they gave San Jose State all it could handle in the conference championship.  Strong gets my second-tier consideration over Tulane's Michael Pratt, even though his rushing numbers are enticing. Nevada's done a decent job of reining in opposing rushers, so if they can cover the edges enough, Pratt won't be able to get loose.  Strong has a strong arm and an excellent receiving corps, but it will be up to the Wolf Pack's offensive line to protect him.  He's been sacked 19 times this season.

RUNNING BACK

Toa Taua, Nevada (DK $5,700, FD $7,800) vs. Tulane

What Taua lacks in size (5-9), he makes up for in finding the holes quickly. In just seven games, he's piled up 573 yards and three touchdowns.  He had a case of fumble-itis last week against San Jose State, but that's a rarity for Taua and shouldn't cause much concern. I expect a good dose of Taua to open up passing lanes for Carson Strong and possibly a visit to the end zone for the standout junior.

Lopini Katoa, BYU (DK $3,700, FD $7,500) vs. UCF

Although I do not doubt that Tyler Allgeier will emerge from his 'probable' designation and wow us with a nice total, I'm calling Katoa's number. There are games where Katoa and Allgeier match each other in carries, and Katoa is often a more frequent pass-catcher than his counterpart. Thankfully, there aren't many running backs that are too expensive, which could go a long way toward rostering the two top quarterbacks. Katoa, who is especially cheap on DraftKings, would be a big help in reaching that goal.

Stephon Huderson, Tulane (DK $3,500, FD $7,000) vs. Nevada

One look at Huderson and teammate Cameron Carroll reveals an interesting discrepancy between the two backs. It seems reasonably obvious that Huderson has enjoyed more success recently, with both backs receiving a similar number of carries in recent weeks. The Green Wave will employ both of them, but I will take Huderson at his slightly lower price point. It would be nice to see a repeat performance of his 103-yard, two-touchdown performance against Tulsa where he was the lead back.

WIDE RECEIVER

Jaylon Robinson, UCF (DK $6,300, FD $8,700) vs. BYU

Dillon Gabriel will give Robinson as many targets as he can handle, and if anyone can find the seams in BYU's tough secondary, it's the talented sophomore. Finding the end zone is a problem for Robinson, but he's caught many passes that set the Knights up in the red zone, and that might be enough for him in a PPR format. This contest should be a fast-paced, high-scoring affair, and Robinson is set up well to reap the benefits.

Isaac Rex, BYU (DK $4,300, FD $7,200) vs. UCF

Sure, there are flashier names in the Cougars' receiving corps, but let's not forget that touchdowns are the name of the game, and Rex has five to his credit over the past four games. Zach Wilson likes to check down to his tight end, and game flow seems to favor that happening in the red zone recently.  The Knights will be ready for this, but if Wilson has blocking support from his running back and the defense shows a blitz package, you can bet that Rex will find the sweet spot in the secondary.

Tory Horton, Nevada (DK $4,100, FD $7,200) vs. Tulane

Over the last month,  the freshman wideout went from Nowhere Land to number two on the depth chart. In just four games, he's caught 18 passes for 306 yards and an eye-popping five touchdowns. Believe me, the lure of Romeo Doubs is tempting, but when you have this kind of production at this almost laughable salary, you have to give some exposure and hope he continues the torrid streak. While we're on the Wolf Pack, how about Cole Turner (DK $6,000, FD $8,000)? Eerily enough, he's also a tight end that's scored five touchdowns over the past four games—sensing a pattern? 

Also consider:  Dax Milne, BYU (DK $6,700, FD $8,900) vs. Tulane
