FanDuel NHL: Saturday Targets

FanDuel NHL: Saturday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

There's no shortage of action in Saturday's NHL main slate, with 10 games on the schedule after 7:00 PM Eastern time. Below, you'll find an overview of the matchups and suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.

SLATE PREVIEW

Staying away from some of this slate's more high-profile games and instead focusing on exploiting favorable matchups will likely prove key to building an effective lineup. The Red Wings-Maple Leafs game should offer even more fantasy goodness than originally meets the eye, making it the premier source of skaters in this slate. Additionally, the Blue Jackets and Flyers will be solid favorites against the Devils and Senators, respectively, and both teams feature intriguing young options in net.

GOALIES

Joonas Korpisalo ($7,600) has been outstanding recently, going 4-0-2 over his past six appearances while allowing a total of 10 goals in that stretch. His strong play should continue against a 30th-ranked Devils offense, especially with New Jersey playing its second game in as many nights.

Carter Hart ($7,900) has won six of his last eight decisions, limiting the opposition to one goal five times in this dominant stretch. The 21-year-old stud should continue his strong play against a Senators offense that's scoring only 2.75 goals per game.

Pavel Francouz ($8,300) has outplayed Philipp Grubauer ($7,600) in net for Colorado of late, allowing just one goal in each of his past three starts en route to three wins and an outstanding .968 save percentage. If the Czech netminder gets the nod against Chicago's bottom-10 offense, he'll likely be worth paying up for.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Noel Acciari ($3,800) has recorded a hat trick in each of his past two games, also adding an assist in Friday's 7-4 win over Dallas. He remains priced at $3,800 with his most recent performance not yet accounted for, so grab the Panthers winger at this bargain valuation while you still can in Carolina.

James Neal ($5,700) has put his sniping ability to excellent use on an Edmonton power play that forces defenses to focus on superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Across the entire NHL, only David Pastrnak (13) has more power-play goals than Neal's 10. Neal gets a great opportunity to add to his accolades with the extra man against a bottom-five Canadiens penalty kill that's operating at 75.2 percent.

James van Riemsdyk ($4,700) potted at least 27 goals in five of the previous six seasons, so it was surprising to see him light the lamp only six times through this campaign's first 31 games. He's rediscovered his scoring touch since with four goals in the past four games, and JVR has a nice opportunity to add to his recent scoring binge against a Senators team that's allowing 3.22 goals per game and battling injuries in net.

David Perron ($6,400) continues to stand out for the Blues. He leads the team with 34 points and is tied for the team lead with 15 goals. The veteran winger is showing no signs of slowing down ahead of a favorable matchup against a Sharks team that's surrendering 3.44 goals per game — second-most in the league. Perron has three goals on 10 shots and an assist over the last two games.

FORWARD LINE STACKS

Hurricanes vs. Panthers

Sebastian Aho (C - $7,700), Teuvo Teravainen (W - $6,700), Nino Niederreiter (W - $4,600)

Aho's as hot as anybody in the NHL not named Acciari, with an 8-4-12 line over his past six games. That recent production has him up to a team-high 21 goals, and Aho's 34 points through 35 games are just two shy of Andrei Svechnikov's team-leading total. Teravainen is sandwiched between them with 35 points, which is impressive given that he's shooting only 7.1 percent after back-to-back campaigns at 12.4 percent or higher. That production includes nine assists in the last six games. Like Teravainen, Niederreiter is due for a massive uptick in shooting luck. He shot 13.6 percent between the 2014-15 and 2018-19 campaigns but sits at a paltry 7.0 percent 35 games into 2019-20. This line's primed for success against a Panthers team that will be finishing up a back-to-back set and ranks in the 10 worst defensively

Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings

Auston Matthews (C - $8,300), William Nylander (W - $5,300), Kasperi Kapanen (W - $3,800)

This highly skilled line should thrive against a Red Wings team that's allowing a league-high 3.89 goals per game. Matthews leads the team in goals (21) and points (38) through 36 games, and he comes in with a 5-2-7 line over the past six contests. Nylander's tied with John Tavares for second in goals (13) and sits one point back of Mitch Marner's 28 for second on the team. The affordable Kapanen has an 8-11-19 line through 36 games, putting him on an 18-goal pace after he potted 20 last season.

Red Wings at Maple Leafs

Dylan Larkin (C - $6,200), Anthony Mantha (W - $6,700), Filip Zadina (W - $3,400)

Toronto has already confirmed that it will deploy putrid backup Michael Hutchinson (0-5-1, 4.55 GAA, .876 save percentage) in net for this second leg of a back-to-back, giving Detroit's top line some major against-the-grain appeal in what should be a high-scoring affair all around. Mantha is tied for the team lead in goals with 12 and four points shy of Tyler Bertuzzi's team-high 28 despite missing eight of Detroit's 36 games. Larkin has taken a step back after posting a 32-41-73 line in 76 games last season, but the 23-year-old center still ranks third on the team in both goals (eight) and points (22). Zadina has spent most of the season honing his craft at the AHL level, but the sixth overall selection from the 2018 draft is starting to translate his talent into NHL production, with a 2-5-7 line in his last eight games at the top level.

DEFENSEMEN

Seth Jones ($5,100) is up to 20 points through 35 games after dishing three helpers in the last two, putting him on pace for a third consecutive campaign with 46-plus points. The talented Blue Jackets blueliner should continue to produce against a Devils team that ranks among the three most generous defensively.

Morgan Rielly's ($5,000) 23 points through 36 games are disappointing relative to last season's 72-point output, but the offensively gifted blueliner has an ideal opportunity to showcase his ability here against the worst team in the league. Rielly has shown signs of breaking out over Toronto's past three games, totaling two assists and nine shots in that stretch.

Torey Krug ($5,500) has done most of his damage on the power play. The diminutive defenseman has a 5-19-24 line in 31 games played after recording four points in the last three, and 14 of those 24 points have come with the extra man. His power-play prowess should be on full display against a bottom-10, 76.8 percent Predators penalty kill.

Samuel Girard ($4,400) is making the most of his time on Colorado's star-studded top power-play unit while Cale Makar recovers from an upper-body injury. Girard has dished out a power-play helper in three of his past four games heading into this matchup against a middling Chicago penalty kill.
