FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Targets

FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

Four games are on the docket Wednesday evening, starting off with a matchup between the Wild and the Jets at 7 p.m. EST. Some of the top offenses will be playing tonight, including the Flames, Hurricanes, Panthers, Golden Knights and Wild. I'm going after the chalk in net as a result and will point out some value plays for tournament DFS contests.

GOALIES

Cam Talbot, MIN at WPG ($8,400): Talbot has been excellent over his past four starts with four wins, a .955 save percentage and a 1.36 GAA, and he's been rock-solid on the road all year with a .922 save percentage. Winnipeg is tied with Anaheim for 27th over the past month with a 2.26 xGF/60 at even strength, the worst mark in the slate.

Jacob Markstrom, CGY vs. ANH ($8,100): For the same reason I like Talbot, it's easy to feel confident in Markstrom on Wednesday. The Ducks' offense has been lethargic over the last month, and Markstrom has been on the polar opposite end of the spectrum in that span, recording a .963 save percentage and a 6-0-0 record at home.

Sergei Bobrovsky, FLA at CAR ($7,800): This is a tough decision between two of the best offenses in the NHL, and FanDuel Sportsbook has the Hurricanes (-135) favored. That should make Bobrovsky a contrarian option. Markstrom and Talbot are the chalky plays, so Bobrovsky is a risky detour.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Carter Verhaeghe, FLA at CAR ($5,700): Verhaeghe has now recorded a career-high 37 points through 46 games, and he's now skating on the top line with Aleksander Barkov and Anthony Duclair. The Hurricanes' PK (89.0 percent) is the best in the league, but only three of Verhaeghe's points have been with the man advantage this season.

Jack Eichel, VGK vs. COL ($5,500): This is the lowest salary you'll get Eichel at all year. Let's not forget that he's a superstar that was forced into a torturous situation in Buffalo, but he still managed to post 36 goals and 78 assists over 68 games two seasons ago. It could take some time to get his bearings, but I don't expect that to be a major issue.

Mikael Backlund, CGY vs. ANH (C $5,300): The 32-year-old has nine points in as many games while averaging 4.5 shots on net in the process. He's getting a ton of opportunities, and the Ducks should allow that to continue, as they've ranked 23rd in the league over the last 10 games with 2.67 xGF/60 at even strength.

LINE STACKS

Avalanche at Golden Knights

Nazem Kadri (C - $10,000), Andre Burakovsky (W - $6,100), Valeri Nichushkin ($6,300)

Laurent Brossoit has struggled at home this season with an .885 save percentage and a 2.93 GAA, and he'll get the start because Robin Lehner (shoulder) has been ruled out. Kadri commands the highest salary in the slate for good reason, as he's accrued 20 goals and 42 assists through 43 games, including 19 points with the man advantage. Meanwhile, both Nichushkin and Burakovsky are firing at 0.81 points per game or better.

Wild at Jets

Ryan Hartman (C - $5,900), Kirill Kaprizov (W - $8,700), Mats Zuccarello (W - $7,700)

This trio has been nothing short of fantastic this season, as Kaprizov and Zuccarello have combined for 36 goals and 103 points thus far while Hartman has chipped in a modest 34 points through 44 games. This line gets a bump up in the rankings because of the matchup, as Winnipeg ranks 26th in the league with a 75.0 penalty-kill percentage. Zuccarello and Kaprizov have put up a combined 29 power-play points this year.

Flames vs. Ducks

Sean Monahan (C - $4,200), Tyler Toffoli (W - $6,100), Dillon Dube (W - $3,200)

Toffoli's having a down year after he posted 28 goals in 52 games last year, but his change of scenery in Calgary should be an immediate boost to his offensive output. Monahan is in a similar situation, but he posted 20-plus goals in his first NHL seven NHL seasons before turning 25, so he should regress upward at some point. While it appears this is the Flames' third line, it has enough firepower to provide significant value Wednesday, especially against the Ducks' Swiss Cheese defense.

DEFENSE

Devon Toews, COL at VGK ($6,800): Depending on your roster makeup, Cale Makar ($7,300) is a fine option with a similar ceiling. Toews comes at the discount and is easier to fit into your lineup. Toews has posted 34 points -- eight on the power play -- through 35 games

Jared Spurgeon, MIN at WPG ($5,200): Spurgeon is handling PP1 duties and could be an intriguing stack with Kaprizov and Zuccarello against Winnipeg's putrid PK. At 32 years old, Spurgeon has recorded 17 points -- seven with the man advantage -- through 29 games. He could handle significant ice time with Matt Dumba (lower body) out, too.

Jamie Drysdale, ANH at CGY ($4,000): Drysdale has accrued 20 points through 49 games, including seven points with the man advantage. Calgary is sturdy on the blue line and in net, but Drysdale's value is indisputable. He provides a solid floor with shots and blocked shots, and he has averaged 20 minutes of ice time over the past 13 contests.
