FanDuel MLB: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Matt Harvey, ATL vs. MIA ($7,500): At the beginning of the year, most managers would never have dreamed of putting Harvey into their lineups at this price. Obviously, that speaks to his struggles, but Harvey is coming off a dominant outing in his last appearance where he maintained velocity throughout. It's rare when you can get an upside starter at this limited cost. That Harvey has been borderline masterful against the Marlins in his career just adds to the appeal, as has allowed current Marlins to hit .180 against him while striking out 29 of them in 111 at-bats.

Catcher

Miguel Montero, CHC vs. ARI ($2,600): Montero is a great bet to be behind the dish after sitting out Saturday. That in itself makes him a sound option with day games galore Sunday. That he's facing lefty Patrick Corbin, who has allowed 11 runs and 16 hits over his last nine innings, just adds to the appeal in what should be a one-sided contest with Cubs ace Jake Arrieta opposing the Diamondbacks.

First Base

Logan Morrison, TAM at MIN ($3,000): The Rays have an inviting matchup with Twins' starter Tyler Duffey, who has allowed at least nine hits and five runs in each of his last three starts. Morrison seems to come with a bit of a bargain price at a position where spending freely is the norm, and is riding an eight-game hitting streak that has seen him collect 12 hits in that span, five of which went for extra bases.

Second Base

Devon Travis, TOR at BOS ($2,900): Since last week, Travis' price has risen $800, but he still seems underpriced as he keeps moving up into a prime spot in a potent Jays lineup. Travis failed to record a hit Saturday for just the second time since returning, but he seems likely to buck that trend Sunday against Eduardo Rodriguez, as he his .328 with four home runs in 58 at-bats last year against left-handed pitching.

Third Base

Nick Castellanos, DET vs. CWS ($2,900): The price here is clearly indicative of Castellanos' current cool streak, as he's topped five fantasy points in only three of his last 10 games. But he's still hitting .316 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI on the year, and is 8-of-23 in his career against Sunday's starter, Jose Quintana.

Shortstop

Trea Turner, WAS at CIN ($2,400): Turner hit in the two hole in his major league debut Friday, going 3-for-3 before oddly not starting Saturday. His stay in the bigs has been deemed temporary for now, but while he's up, it makes sense for both the Nats and DFS managers to use him. Assuming he plays and occupies a spot near the top of the order, he at worst has a chance to set the table for an offense that will look to tee off on Reds' starter Jon Moscot, who has allowed eight home runs in 17.2 innings.

Outfield

Bryce Harper, WAS at CIN ($4,000): If you're looking for a stack, National bats seems like the right option. Harper's price hasn't fully rebounded from his recent two-day absence, but he's also in a modest slump, owning just five hits (three singles) in his last 33 at-bats. That seems likely to change against the aforementioned Moscot, who has been serving up pitches on a platter. He's been worse against left-handed hitters, allowing five home runs and a wOBP of .478 to 47 lefties faced.

Nomar Mazara, TEX vs. SEA ($2,900): Mazara has feasted on right-handed pitching, owning a .317 batting average and eight home runs over 120 at-bats. He'll face Hisashi Iwakuma on Sunday, a righty who is allowing a respectable .336 wOBP to lefties, but allowed Mazara to reach base twice in three at-bats earlier this season.

Byron Buxton, MIN vs. TAM ($2,400): Don't look now, but Buxton has hit safely in every game since his most recent promotion from Triple-A, including two hits in each of his last two games. He also notched his first steal in that span Saturday. Buxton is likely to remain in the nine hole in order to reduce any pressure on him, but he's finally looking comfortable at the plate. He'll look to stay hot against Drew Smyly, who has struggled against right-handed hitters on the road to a tune of a .372 wOBP and .505 slugging percentage over 116 batters faced.
