Closer Watch
Seattle - Tom Wilhelmsen threw a perfect ninth inning against the heart of Detroit's batting order Thursday to earn his sixth save of the season. The back end of the Mariners' bullpen took a hit earlier this week, with setup man Stephen Pryor (back) landing on the DL with an injury that is expected to keep him out longer than two weeks. Carter Capps will now be tasked with setting up Wilhelmsen, and Capps is likely next in line for save chances, should something happen to Wilhelmsen while Pryor is out.
Toronto - Casey Janssen recorded his fifth save of the year by shutting the door on a 3-1 victory over the White Sox on Thursday. The right-hander has allowed just one run on three hits and he's yet to issue a walk through six innings this season. Sergio Santos hit the DL on Thursday with a triceps injury, which further entrenches Janssen in his already secure role.

Recommended Pickup
Tony Cingrani, P, CIN - In his first career major league start Thursday, Cingrani allowed one run on five hits and three walks and fanned eight batters over five innings against Miami. Sure, it was the Marlins, and Cingrani went just five frames, but the eight strikeouts are impressive and the 23-year-old showed poise, escaping a two-on, one out jam in the first inning and working around leadoff base runners in the second and third innings. Johnny Cueto (triceps) has not yet resumed throwing, and there's no timetable for his return, so Cingrani figures to continue to fill the vacated rotation spot left by Cueto, as long as he holds his own. If the left-handed Cingrani pitches well enough, he may even stick around upon Cueto's return, depending on how both he and Mike Leake perform in their next few starts.
