FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Edwin Jackson, WAS at SD ($7,500) – Jackson has been effective since joining the Nationals' rotation, scoring 40, 27, 46, 15 and 34 points in his five starts. The Padres remain a team to target when choosing a pitcher as they have the fifth-worst wOBA (.310) and seventh-worst strikeout rate (23.2%) at home against right-handed pitching.

Catcher

Buster Posey, SF vs PHI ($2,900) – It makes sense to pay up for Gary Sanchez tonight but pivoting off to Posey will save $1,200. Posey has a .341 wOBA at home against right-handed pitching and will face Aaron Nola tonight. Nola has gotten stronger at the season has gone on, though it's worth noting he's struggled more on the road.

First Base

Joey Gallo, TEX vs CHW ($3,800) – It makes a lot of sense to pay up at first base and Gallo arguably the most upside of any player at the position tonight. He's been on fire during the month of August with nine home runs, fueling a 1.334 OPS. Tonight's matchup against Reynaldo Lopez is ideal, as he's making his first road start of the season after posting a 3.79 ERA at Triple-A.

Second Base

Rougned Odor, TEX vs CHW ($3,100) – Odor's price has been fluctuating a lot this week based on the quality of pitching he's faced ($2,500 vs Justin Verlander). He's always hit better in the friendly confines of Arlington Park and against right-handed pitching (.353 wOBA this season). Besides what has already been said about Lopez, he's also supposed to be on a pitch count down the stretch, meaning the Rangers could get to secondary pitching sooner than later in this one.

Shortstop

Tim Anderson, CHW at TEX ($3,400) – Anderson has been fantastic over his last seven games with a 1.123 OPS (four home runs), and that was before another leadoff home run Wednesday.

Third Base

Todd Frazier, NYY at NYM ($3,400) – It's tough to ignore the hot streaks both Adrian Beltre and Cory Spangenberg are on based on their last few box scores. That said, Frazier was brought in to solidify up the hot corner for the Yankees while hitting southpaws. Before an 0-for-4 night against Jacob deGrom and the Mets, he had reached base in 10 straight and has a .392 wOBA on the road this season. While most of that was with the White Sox, that should still hold true at Citi Field against Steven Matz, who has struggled at home this season.

Outfield

Nicky Delmonico, CWS at TEX ($2,400) – This is a cheap price for a kid who should be hitting cleanup. His confidence has to be sky-high coming off a two home-run game where he also stole a base.

Rhys Hoskins, PHI at SF ($2,800) – Despite playing in one of the best pitcher's parks, Jeff Samardzija has a 4.74 ERA that has ballooned due to giving up 22 home runs. Hoskins is a legit prospect that had hit 29 home runs in a non-hitter friendly environment, which is where he'll be tonight. Hoskins comes into this game with three home runs in his last three contests – all of which came at Petco Park.

Avisail Garcia, CHW at TEX ($3,200) – Garcia will hit in the heart of the White Sox order and has a ton of upside. He's got games of 12 or more fantasy points in four of his last seven and gets a park upgrade in Arlington tonight. Tyson Ross has a 7.11 ERA and has had his issues at home, giving up a .423 wOBA to opposing right-handed hitters.
