DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Josh Tomlin, CLE at SF ($8,000) - Tomlin has been a stack target for most of the season, but there is plenty to like about him going against one of the worst offenses in the league in the spacious confines of AT&T Park. The 32-year-old is notorious for his control, and the Giants hold the worst ISO in the league against righty pitching (.133).

Brent Suter, MIL at PIT ($6,200) - Suter has taken advantage of his opportunity in the rotation, allowing just three runs (two earned) while striking out 13 over 12.1 innings in his two starts. He draws a favorable matchup against the Pirates, who rate as a bottom-10 team against the fastball according to RAA, and hit the ball on the ground at nearly a 47 percent clip.

Catcher

Evan Gattis, HOU vs. SEA ($4,200) - Gattis hasn't hit for average against lefties this season, but has retained a .224 ISO over 58 at-bats. This makes him a suitable selection against Ariel Miranda, who carries a 1.9 HR/9 rate and a 5.52 xFIP against righties.

First Base

Matt Holliday, NYY at MIN ($3,800) - A viral infection cost Holliday two weeks of playing time, but the 37-year-old managed to hit a game-tying homer off of Craig Kimbrel on Saturday in his second game since recovering from the illness. Holliday's production has lagged behind against lefties this season, but he holds a 44 percent hard contact rate over 58 at-bats, and has tallied an 8.3 RAA against the fastball. This should play to his advantage, as opposing starter Adalberto Mejia's heater has registered a -4.7 RAA in 2017.

Second Base

Ian Happ, CHC at ATL ($4,400) - Opposing starter Julio Teheran is hard to trust against lefties due to his 36:33 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which has contributed to a 6.02 xFIP. The right-hander has been pounded at SunTrust Park to the tune of a 7.58 ERA over 46.1 innings, which bodes well for Happ and the .301 ISO he carries when hitting from the left side of the plate.

Third Base

Jose Ramirez, CLE at SF ($4,600) - Matt Moore will enter the contest against the Indians sporting a fastball that clocks in at -13.0 RAA with an xFIP above 5.00 from both sides of the plate. Ramirez's numbers against lefties aren't quite as gaudy as what he has shown against right-handers, but a .195 ISO should be enough power to put some points on the board in this matchup.

Shortstop

Freddy Galvis, PHI at MIA ($3,500) - Opposing starter Tom Koehler has struggled all season, as evidenced by his 8.00 ERA and .671 slugging percentage allowed to lefties. Galvis has logged a .177 ISO and a 31 percent hard contact rate against righties over 226 at-bats.

Outfield

Max Kepler, MIN vs. NYY ($4,300) - It's easy to forget about Kepler in a Minnesota lineup that contains Miguel Sano, but the 24-year-old has done well for himself in 2017, notching an 11.0 RAA against the fastball while keeping a .218 ISO verses righties. Bryan Mitchell performed reasonably well in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but he's registered a 5.06 ERA in 12 innings out of the bullpen with the big club.

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. SD ($5,600) - Blackmon has owned opposing pitchers at Coors Field this season, tallying a .409 ISO and a .505 wOBA over 164 at-bats. Luis Perdomo has thrown the ball well this season but carries a 5.10 xFIP against lefties.

Jose Pirela, SD at COL ($4,000) - German Marquez's strikeout rate drops by six percent at Coors Field, while his home run rate jumps to 1.2/9. Pirela has cooled a bit since his torrid stretch in June, but he still holds a .202 ISO against righty pitchers.
