WNBA DFS Strategies for Friday, August 15

The first three games of Friday night all tip off at 7:30 p.m., with perhaps the most interesting game taking place in the Metroplex with the Los Angeles Sparks and Dallas Wings locking horns. At 10 p.m. ET, it is listed as the Seattle Storm at Atlanta Dream, but that game is not being played in Georgia. These teams meet at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, B.C. in the first WNBA regular-season game ever played in Canada. Of course, that will all change when the Toronto Tempo begin play in 2026.

Let's check out the best options for DFS players heading into Friday. There are plenty of good values available.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

The Valkyries (17-15) and Sky (8-24) meet at Wintrust Arena at 7:30 p.m. ET. The expansion Golden State franchise has not only played well, but it is smack dab in the mix of the postseason race.

Golden State has won three in a row, and it has four victories in the past five road contests, including a 73-66 victory in Chicago on Aug. 1.

In that most recent meeting, Veronica Burton rolled up 18 points, including a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line, while rookie Janelle Salaun was good for 16 points and nine rebounds. The Valkyries were decent, and they were without Tiffany Hayes, but she is back now. Cecilia Zandalasini was sidelined with a foot injury then as well, but she is also back.

For Chicago, Angel Reese was sidelined in the first meeting, so not much changed has there. Kamilla Cardoso had 14 points with 11 rebounds, and she will be front and center in this one as well. Elizabeth Williams had 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots, and is coming off an impressive show in Connecticut last time out, when she had 12 points and 15 rebounds. She will be a vital DFS option in this one.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

The Mystics (14-18) and Fever (19-15) meet at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, and Indiana is looking to bounce back after a stunning loss to the Wings on Tuesday.

Indiana will again be without the services of Caitlin Clark, who is not yet practicing due to her groin injury. She has now officially missed a full month since last playing July 15.

While the Fever lost to the Wings last time out, it was no fault of Natasha Howard, who had 12 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and two steals, and Kelsey Mitchell racked up 24 points against Dallas.

Jacy Sheldon, who was acquired from the Sun for Aaliyah Edwards, will miss Friday's matchup due to an ankle injury, joining Shakira Austin on the shelf.

Washington allows 83.4 PPG (eighth in the WNBA), while allowing teams to hit 43.4 percent (seventh) from the field. That means it's a good idea to lean into the Fever for big offensive totals.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

The Sparks (15-17) have been on fire lately, trying to get back in to the mix for a postseason spot. They need to take advantage of the Wings, who are well out of the hunt.

Los Angeles lost 105-97 to the Liberty on Tuesday, but that's still a healthy offensive total, and good for DFS purposes. The Sparks shot 46.8 percent, and 29.0 percent from behind the three-point line against the Liberty, with Kelsey Plum pacing the team with 26 points, five rebounds and five assists. Dearica Hamby was good for 21 points, eight rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block. Los Angeles had four starters go for at least 16 points.

The Wings are flying high after stunning Indiana on Tuesday as a big underdog. Maddy Siegrist led the way with 22 points, five rebounds and three triples in 36 minutes, while Li Yueru ended up with 20 points in 27 minutes off the bench. Rookie Paige Bueckers was good for 16 points, even though she misfired on 13 of 19 field-goal attempts, while adding eight assists and five boards.

This should be an offensive showcase, so keep an eye on this game.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

These teams meet in Vancouver, B.C. in the first-ever WNBA regular-season game played north of the border.

These teams just met Wednesday night at Climate Pledge Arena, and the Dream humbled the Storm 85-75. Atlanta shot 49.2 percent from the field while hitting 46.2 percent from behind the three-point line. It won by 10 points despite the fact that the Dream turned it over 14 times, compared to just six turnovers for the Storm. Seattle had a minus-16 rebound differential, and that is worrisome.

In the win, Jordin Canada was sidelined with a right hamstring, and she is out again for this one. Maya Caldwell stepped in with 10 points and seven rebounds in 34 minutes, hitting 4-of-5 from the field. Allisha Gray was good for 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Rhyne Howard tallied 25 points with seven assists, two steals and five made three-pointers.

For the Dream, Nneka Ogwumike ended up with 29 points on 13-of-23 shooting to pace the team, and she added nine rebounds, four assists and a steal with one made three-pointer. Gabby Williams had 11 points in 32 minutes, but she was the only other double-digit scorer.

Seattle has struggled mightily lately, dropping six in a row, and the defense has allowed at least 85 points in four consecutive games, and six of the past seven matchups. Lean into the struggles of the Storm, and load up with Dream players.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

The Aces (19-14) and Mercury (19-12) meet up in the Valley of the Sun. These teams played in Phoenix on June 29, with the Aces going for an 84-81 win.

Las Vegas won 83-77 over the Liberty on Wednesday, winning a season-best fifth straight game. The offense is humming as well, posting at least 83 points in four of those matchups.

Phoenix is looking to rebound after a 74-66 loss to the Dream on Sunday, halting a three-game losing streak.

While the Aces are posting some big numbers on offense, facing the Mercury is always difficult. The Mercury are second in the WNBA with 79.5 PPG allowed, and they're fourth with just a 42.1 percent defensive field-goal percentage.

This game might feature a little more defense, and this is probably the game DFS managers should shy away from.

Top WNBA DFS Picks: Key Players to Watch

FanDuel

Building around Boston and Hamby at fairly reasonable salaries should be your starting point. Boston is averaging 34.08 fantasy points per game, and she'll continue to work to pick up the pace on offense with Caitlin Clark remaining sidelined. Hamby has been on a roll for the rejuvenated Sparks, going for 15 or more points in all six of her appearances in August, as well as 12 straight outings since July 13. She has recorded at least seven rebounds in four of six appearances in August while also picking up four steals against the Liberty on Tuesday. Williams is a good target for the Sky, as she is basically filling the role of the injured Angel Reese. Look to Burton as well, who is stellar from downtown, and Caldwell is a strong play with Jordin Canada on the shelf.

Unlocking Value: WNBA DFS Sleeper Picks

DraftKings

We mentioned Hamby above, and you'll want her front and center in DFS lineup as. Plum is also a solid pick, as she should be able to roll up some big-time numbers against the defensively-challenged Wings. Hayes has scored at least 14 points in three of her last four appearances, and she has at least five rebounds in all four outings in August. She has averaged 13.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists during that span, making her a tremendous value. Geiselsoder gets another start, and against the Sparks, she could exceed DFS expectations. Brink continues to play with a minutes restriction after returning from her ACL injury, but against Dallas, she could shine in limited time.
