WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

The first matchup of the four-game slate on the final day of the regular season is between two teams with not a lot to play for before either the postseason begins or the season ends.

New York enters the game as one of the eight playoff teams, sitting firmly in the fifth seed. The Liberty could end up tied in the standings with Phoenix record-wise when Thursday concludes, but the Mercury have the tiebreaker in the season series, so they would get the fourth seed. With that said, New York could very well limit the minutes of its star players to give them an extra day of rest before the season begins. If that indeed takes place and the starting lineup for the Liberty sees a lower minute total than normal, target players such as Emma Meesseman and Kennedy Burke to not only see extra time but see an increase in production. They have already been two of the top producers off the bench but they could have an even larger impact Thursday.

Chicago has been eliminated from postseason contention for a while now, having struggled most of the season and now dealing with some drama inside of the locker room with young star Angel Reese, who we may have seen for the last time this season due to what the team is calling a back injury. The only thing that might be on the line Thursday for the Sky is whether or not they will be in 12th place where they currently stand or if they will move up to the 11th spot in the standings when it's all said and done. With a half-dozen absences on the team, look for Kamilla Cardoso and Michaela Onyenwere to step up and perform well, and you can also throw Elizabeth Williams into that conversation if she is able to take the floor with a calf injury.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

Similar to the game above, the second of four contests in the finale is between two teams with not much to play for, as it's also a matchup between a playoff team and one that is on the outside looking in.

Phoenix is locked into the fourth seed for the playoffs, meaning it will host the opening game of the first round of the playoffs and will have home-court advantage against New York in the best-of-three series. With that being the case, expect Phoenix to monitor the minutes of its star players and don't expect them to have usual production as a result. As a result, this could be a big Sami Whitcomb game, with her playing larger minutes and putting up strong numbers as a result over the last few games. Expect for her, as well as the rest of the second unit, to see even more time on the court Thursday.

Dallas is a team that has a lot of promise, but the club has struggled this season to say the least. Injuries and youth have been two large factors for the disappointing season, resulting in the Wings falling down the standings quickly. If Dallas loses Thursday, it will wrap up the 13th and final spot in the standings with nine wins in the 44-game campaign. With Phoenix likely sitting most of its starters, this could be a Rookie of the Year sealing game -- though she arguably has already sealed it -- for rookie Paige Bueckers. Bueckers has averaged 19.5 points per game over her last four appearances, with players like Maddy Siegrist and Myisha Hines-Allen also showing up nicely for Dallas, which could happen again Thursday. Those three players are worth taking a look at in DFS lineups.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

This game could be the best matchup on the four-game slate, with both teams still having something to play for in the regular season finale before the postseason can begin. Both teams have clinched a playoff spot, but seeding and first-round matchups are at stake for both squads.

Golden State enters the game still fighting for the best possible seed in the playoffs, sitting as the seventh seed entering Thursday, but the team will end up with either the sixth or eighth seed. If the Valkyries lose Thursday, they will face Minnesota in the first round as the eighth seed. If Golden State wins, it will leap past Indiana for the sixth seed and will play either Las Vegas or Atlanta. As for players to target to add to DFS lineups, the trio of Janelle Salaun, Veronica Burton and Iliana Rupert are worth taking a chance on. All three are averaging double figures in scoring over the last five games, with Salaun leading the charge with 15.2 points per game over that span.

Minnesota has locked up the top seed in the postseason and is guaranteed home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, but it still will have an impact on seeding for the other seven teams and notably who the Lynx will face in the opening round. If the Lynx win on Thursday, they will face Golden State in the best-of-three first round. If Minnesota loses, it will square off against Seattle to begin the playoffs. Minnesota has had one starter sit out games over the last 3-4 contests due to rest, but the Lynx don't have any players listed on their status report outside of DiJonai Carrington (shoulder) entering Thursday. It is safe to assume the Lynx will approach this game as normal, so approach DFS with that mindset if you plan to select any Minnesota players.

WNBA DFS Showdown Picks and Lineup Building Strategy

To round things out is a battle between two big-market teams, one of which is fighting for seeding near the top of the WNBA standings and the other which narrowly missed the postseason and could try to play spoiler in the regular-season finale.

Las Vegas enters Thursday as the hottest team in the WNBA over the last few weeks and a team that is playing its best basketball at the best possible time. The Aces have won an impressive 15 straight games, having shot up the standings over the past few weeks and guaranteeing either the second or third seed in the playoffs. If Las Vegas wins, it will secure the second seed in the postseason. If the Aces lose, Atlanta would get the second seed and Las Vegas would drop to the third spot. Expect Las Vegas to play as normal in Thursday's finale, meaning those who can afford A'ja Wilson's salary must add the MVP candidate to DFS lineups. Beyond Wilson, Jackie Young has been playing some stellar basketball over the last few games, and Chelsea Gray is starting to play like Playoff Gray down the stretch. Look for all of them to put together strong performances Thursday in an important seeding game.

Los Angeles was in contention for a playoff spot until Tuesday when it was eliminated due to a Seattle win. The Sparks were eliminated from postseason play, with the Storm securing the eighth and final spot. However, don't count out Los Angeles putting together a "prove-it" type performance Thursday in trying to play spoiler against Las Vegas. Over the last five games with the Sparks still in the mix for the playoffs, the duo of Dearica Hamby and Kelsey Plum once again led the way, as we have seen most of the season. Behind those two stars, Rickea Jackson and Rae Burrell have averaged double figures in scoring, so they could be in line for strong performances in the final game of the year.

FanDuel

Value Plays

Although Collier has faded a bit in the MVP race in recent weeks, she has the opportunity to be a stellar DFS contributor Thursday if the Lynx attempt to choose their opponent during the playoffs by giving a full workload to key players. Bueckers has likely already secured Rookie of the Year honors, but it wouldn't be surprising to see her attempt to put a flourish on her first professional season during Thursday's regular-season finale. The Sky are dealing with several potential absences, and since Angel Reese (back) and Elizabeth Williams (calf) are questionable, Cardoso could handle a massive role.

DraftKings

Value Plays

Although A'ja Wilson has dominated headlines recently by putting herself back into the MVP race during the Aces' 15-game winning streak, Young is still a solid option and should handle a sizable role as the team attempt to secure the second seed in the playoffs. Although the Sparks have now been eliminated from the playoffs, Hamby has been a strong contributor down the stretch and could continue to step up Thursday, especially if Los Angeles attempts to play spoiler against Las Vegas. Burton has been a key player for the Valkyries throughout the season, and that's unlikely to change Thursday as Golden State attempts to secure the best seed possible for the playoffs.
