September is rolling along, and we arrive at Wednesday with plenty of action on the docket. There are eight games on the slate for MLB purposes, with the first pitch at 7:35 p.m. EDT. The MLB regular season may be heading toward a close while the football industrial complex is about to go full throttle, but don't forget about MLB DFS. These recommendations could help you find some success you don't want to miss out on.

Pitching

Cade Horton, CHC vs. ATL ($8,300): Horton is absolutely locked in. Over his last eight outings he has a 0.86 ERA. On the season he has an 1.71 ERA at home as well. The rookie is really emerging on the MLB level. While Atlanta has climbed up to being average in runs scored, I'd still gladly take Horton at home in this matchup.

Ryan Bergert, KAN vs. LAA ($8,100): Here's another rookie pitcher for you. Bergert was pitching well for the Padres as a swingman, but he's been even better in the Royals rotation. Through five starts he has a 2.54 ERA with 25 strikeouts against eight walks. Given that the Angels are in the bottom 10 in runs scored, Bergert should be able to continue keeping Kansas City fans happy he came east in the Freddy Fermin trade.

Top Targets

After last season it seemed like Brice Turang ($3,500) would be a guy who stole a lot of bases and did damage with his legs, which works for a second baseman. While he's swiped 22 bags this year, he's also changed the perception of his bat as well. Turang has hit .289 and has popped 17 home runs. Not only that, but the lefty has slugged .609 over the last three weeks. I'm concerned about Aaron Nola getting into gear after his injury absence. Through his first three starts back, he has a 7.53 ERA.

With Kyle Tucker's calf strained, I'm opting for Pete Crow-Armstrong ($3,400) to get a piece of the matchup with Atlanta. I know PCA has cooled down, but he's also two homers shy of a 30/30 season. The lefty also has slugged .540 against righties and .533 at home (his lack of walks makes his OPS relatively unremarkable). Bryce Elder has been just as bad as last year when he had a 6.52 ERA in 10 starts. The righty has a 1.44 HR/9 rate, and his 20.7-percent line drive rate could yield some doubles for Crow-Armstrong as well, or maybe even his fifth triple.

Bargain Bats

On the one hand, Colson Montgomery ($3,400) has a sub-.300 OBP. On the other hand, he's a shortstop that has hit 16 home runs… in only 48 games. That's a reminder of why he was a top prospect before his debut. It's unsurprising he can't hit lefties at all, but he's slugged .615 against right-handed pitchers. Zebby Matthews has a career 5.70 ERA, and lefties have batted .308 against him as well.

The addition of Jesus Sanchez ($2,800) from the Marlins has given the Astros lineup some balance, especially with Yordan Alvarez now back as well. Since 2023, Sanchez has a .797 OPS versus righties. This season Will Warren has made real improvements at home and against righties. However, he still has a 5.58 ERA on the road, and lefties have still hit .270 against him.

Stacks to Consider

Giants at Rockies (German Marquez): Rafael Devers ($3,600), Willy Adames ($3,500), Jung Hoo Lee ($2,900)

Time for some more Coors Field action! Having a K/BB rate below 2.00 is not idea at Coors, and to that end Marquez has a 6.14 ERA on the campaign. At home he has a 1.5 HR/9 rate in 2025 as well. Marquez is a righty, and lefties have hit .301 against him since 2023. However, righties have also hit .311 against him in that time, so I have one righty in this stack.

Devers is now up to 30 homers, and he's primed to have over 100 RBI once again. Over the last three weeks the former Boston slugger has an 1.001 OPS. Adames started slowly, but the shortstop now has over 25 home runs for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Like Devers, he's locked in, as he has a .949 OPS over the same 21-day time frame. Lee doesn't hit many homers, but the lefty has 10 triples and 30 doubles. I do like to point out in such situations that Coors Field is a boon to all types of extra-base hits.

Athletics at Cardinals (Matthew Liberatore): Brent Rooker ($3,500), Shea Langeliers ($3,500), Jacob Wilson ($3,000)

Liberatore was pitching well earlier this year, but the operative words there are "was" and "earlier." Over his last five starts he has a 6.04 ERA and 2.4 HR/9 rate. The lefty now has a 4.55 ERA at home this year. Since 2023 righties have hit .275 against Liberatore and hit almost every homer he's given up, so I have a three-righty stack.

Rooker knows how to provide power. He's likely to hit 30 home runs for the third season in a row, and his 35 doubles are already a career high. Additionally, he has a .973 OPS against lefties on the campaign. Langeliers has missed a couple games recently, but with no injury designation. Perhaps it's just catcher burnout. That being said, this has comfortably been the best season of his career as he has an 1.070 OPS versus lefties, and he has a .965 OPS on the road. The Athletics will likely let him play in this one. Wilson came out of the gate hitting well, went cold, got hurt, and now he's back. Since returning, he has an 1.016 OPS. In his career the shortstop has an .853 OPS versus left-handed pitchers as well.
